The new golf season may be delayed just a little bit, but rest assured . . . it IS coming! As you can see, much (but not all) of the snow and ice is gone from the golf course. With the warmer temps and rain predicted for the weekend, what remains should be gone. After that, we will need to dry out and don’t forget about the frost in the ground. The relentlessly cold temperatures right through much of this week have done little to help with that. So we still need some cooperation from Mother Nature.

So the official opening day at LGC is still uncertain. Please note that the course is COMPLETELY CLOSED to play prior to the official opening. There is plenty of work to be completed to get the course ready for play, so your cooperation and patience is very much appreciated.

Even though the golf course is not yet open, preparations are underway for the new season. Bob and Jeff have been working on the maintenance equipment and will soon be able to start working on course cleanup. Patty Walters has been busy working on menus and getting the kitchen/dining room ready for the new season. The renovation in the ladies locker room is well under way. The golf committee has been busy working on the tournament schedule for 2014, which has been finalized and is being posted to the club website (lexingtongc.com). The handy-dandy printed pocket version should be available in the shop next week.

Save the date: Of note, on Wednesday, May 7th, we have scheduled an MGA Rules Night. It will begin at 7 pm and give you a chance to brush up on the rules and perhaps answer any rules questions you might have.

From the Shop:
We all like a deal. Admit it, we will drive out of our way to save a few cents on a gallon of gas. So why not take advantage of one of the pre-season golf ball discounts available. It is a savings of 25% off the regular price. It would be like getting gas for $ 2.75 a gallon!

Even if you do not play a premium ball such as a Titleist Pro V1, Callaway Speed Regime, or the Bridgestone B-330 series, the Bridgestone offer is also for their E-series balls.

Not sure which Bridgestone ball might be right for your game? Here is a link to help make the right selection.

Please note, time will soon be running out on these offers. Check the program details below and contact me to take advantage of these great offers.

We are into the countdown for the Masters. Traditionally this is seen as the start of the season proper. It’s an exciting time for the Professionals and fans alike. For the Professionals, the weeks and months of preparation have just about been completed and they’ll be striving to play their best.

What state are your preparations in for the golf season ahead? Have you checked on your equipment? If you’re not intending to invest in new Irons, have you checked your grips? How worn are the grooves on your Wedges? If they’re worn, then your investment in a ‘one hop and stop’ golf ball is a little wasted. Are you up to speed on the latest equipment releases, especially golf balls?

Are you expecting your swing to just pick up where you left off last year or have you already decided on the swing improvement you’re going to make, or are you hoping that it will miraculously all come right and that you’ll hit the ball further and straighter than ever before?

I have a request of every golfer as we enter the season. We’ve been losing golfers, year on year. So I’d like to ask each of you as we start the season, to identify someone you know who has given up the game. Then I’d like you to find a way to re-introduce that ex-golfer to the game. Work on them and see if, by the time we get to the end of the year, you’ve managed to get them back out on the golf course at least once a month.

                   March is National Nutrition Month
We want to focus your attention on the importance of making informed choices and developing physical activity habits. While winter is coming to an end, we want to encourage you to get out and practice your golf activity. Whether you are in the garage or at the facility, we want you to be active. A body in motion stays in motion. Contact the shop here to begin your season activity.

Regards,
Kevin

PRODUCT UPDATE
If distance is a goal, then don’t overlook swingweight
In the rush to create hosels that can adjust loft and face angle, the ‘total weight’ and the ‘swingweight’ of your Driver is often overlooked. They are critical to the distance you will be able to achieve off the tee.

Total weight is, as it sounds, a measure of the total weight of your Driver; but swingweight is a measure of how much of that weight is in the head.

If you are after extra distance then the head weight (swingweight) of your Driver should be matched to your strength, your swing speed and swing tempo, and your ability to control the clubhead.

Certainly amongst the younger or better players there are Drivers with swingweights that are too low, increasing the chances of off-center ball strikes.
Adjustability in a Driver is all well and good, but the best results are achieved when it is fitted including shaft and swingweight for your swing. If you are interested in improvement off the tee, then let’s start with an assessment of your swing and find the perfect solution.
