Father’s Day Pro-Am Results
In the Father’s Day Pro-Am, the team of Joe Bianco, Mark Bianco, Gary Bianco and Cubby McGee bested the field by 3 strokes. In the 2 Best-Balls net of the 4 scoring, the team shot 125 (-17). Finishing second with a score of 128 (-14) was the team of Paul Caruso, Jim Caruso, Chet Messer, and Chris Messer. That was one stroke ahead of two teams. The team of Dan Brennan, Steve Jepsen, Tim McDonough, and Arthur McManus tied the team of Rob Lynch, Andrew Busa and Brian DelGreco at 129 (-13), good for third place.

U.S. Open Thoughts
- From the first tee shot on the opening day, to the final putt on the final day, one thing was crystal clear: Martin Kaymer was playing the best golf at the 2014 U.S. Open. There wasn’t even a close second.
- I am not so sure I like the “New” Pinehurst #2.
- Hitting fairways is usually required at a U.S. Open venue. It did not seem that players were paying much of a penalty for driving it into the so called, “natural areas”. Kaymer even made a momentum changing eagle from it in the 3rd round.
- Like the Masters earlier in the year, this tournament lacked any drama down the stretch. Sure, Eric Compton was a great story, and Rickie Fowler had his best major. But everyone seemed to be playing for 2nd. In the final round, only Kaymer (-1) managed to break par. The other 15 players combined for a total 52 over par!
- Kaymer sure did use the “Texas Wedge” a lot! For all the talk about the Donald Ross greens and the variety of shots that could be played from around them, Kaymer used his putter almost exclusively. So much for the short game imagination required at Pinehurst #2.
- Phil missed A LOT of putts! Although it still may happen, I do not think he will complete the career grand slam.

- Although it was a bit of a gamble by the U.S.G.A., it will be interesting to watch the women play on the same course as the men in the Women’s U.S. Open this week.
