Greetings, Happy New Year to all of our readers, we hope that you have all enjoyed your festive season and are ready for a great year of golf. We hope to see you at the club soon!

Rule 20-6: Lifting Ball Incorrectly Substituted, Dropped or Placed A ball incorrectly substituted, dropped or placed in the wrong place or otherwise not in accordance with the Rules but not played, may be lifted, without penalty, and the player must then proceed correctly. Remember: Please come and collect your new rule book in the Pro Shop.  Congratulations to Kaylah Williams on winning both the gross and nett of the WP Girls u/16 Closed held at Durbanville GC. Well played, Kaylah! Congratulations also go out to Zilke Bal, who won the WP Junior Closed. Well done!
The 20-Something Storm The game of golf is certainly not lacking in terms of young role models. Both the PGA and European Tours are filled with up and coming golfers who are ready to compete with those who were once their role models. This last week both tournaments on both of the world’s top 2 Tours were won by 22-year-olds. The BMW SA Open crowned its youngest local champion since green jacket holder Trevor Immelman won it at the age of 23 in 2003. Winner Brandon Stone’s closest challengers were Daniel Brooks (28) and Christiaan Bezuidenhout (21). He is a graduate of the University of Texas Golf Programme and was enrolled there over the same period as world number 3, Jordan Spieth. Stone also owes a lot of his success to his father and former Asian and Sunshine Tour player Kevin Stone, who has contributed greatly to his coaching over the years. Our country is spoiled for young golfing talent, but we can never have too many rising stars. Coaching is being received and translated into better golf at a much younger age than in the past. These young guns are latching onto the message of better golf and are becoming world-beaters in the process. If you know a youngster who hasn't taken up the game yet then send them to us at Bellville Golf Club. It's always a great time to start.
