Rule 27
Ball Lost or Out of Bounds; Provisional Ball

27-2 Provisional Ball

a. Procedure
If a ball may be lost outside a water hazard or may be out of bounds, to save time the player may play another ball provisionally in accordance with Rule 27-1. The player must:

(i) announce to his opponent in match play or his marker or a fellow-competitor in stroke play that he intends to play a provisional ball; and

(ii) play the provisional ball before he or his partner goes forward to search for the original ball.

If a player fails to meet the above requirements prior to playing another ball, that ball is not a provisional ball and becomes the ball in play under penalty of stroke and distance (Rule 27-1); the original ball is lost.

(Order of play from teeing ground - see Rule 10-3)

Note:
If a provisional ball played under Rule 27-2a might be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds, the player may play another provisional ball. If another provisional ball is played, it bears the same relationship to the previous provisional ball as the first provisional ball bears to the original ball.

Many golfers think that the bounce angle is all they have to worry about. But the amount of bounce is also impacted by sole width.

These two Wedges have the same bounce angle, but the one on the right raises the leading edge more, and offers more bounce, because the sole width extends the lower sole position.

The amount of bounce needs to work for your game. You might have been fit for your Irons, but were you fit for your Wedges? Does the design of your Wedges help make your short-game easier and more effective? Why not book a scoring club assessment?

Lee Trevino was once asked to name a great bunker player who was a “flipper” (that is someone who rolls the hands through impact closing the face in the follow through). He couldn’t. He said all of the good bunker players held the face open after impact.

There is a lot of confusing information written about the bunker shot, yet with the correct technique, this is an easy shot to play well. If you’re at all unsure of how to play this shot (beyond the words) or you’re struggling from greenside bunkers, then come and see us now.
