Greetings from Bellville Friday, April 19, 2024

Last week the spring treatment took place on the course, which saw the greens and closely mowed kikuyu turf areas (tees, fairways and surrounds) hollow tined. This cultural practise does reduce the quality of playable surfaces for a few weeks, but is essential to maintaining putting surfaces and an important puzzle piece when irrigating with poor water quality to assist with turf health.

These are some of the key reasons for hollow tining:

Root development.
· Thatch control.
· Release of toxic gasses.
· Improves wetting or hydrophobic soils.
· Compaction relief.
· Disruption of soil layering.
· Better response to fertilisers.

This week we hosted the first Greenkeepers revenge, the goal for the event is to generate funds that can be put back into the course. Our first goal is to increase the tree planting on the course with the aim to (a) improve the strategy of the golf holes, (b) improve safety by blocking selective danger areas and (c) soften roads and houses.

Reminder
Kindly inform the Club in writing if and when any of your personal details change. To ensure better communication.

Regards,
Werner

Our Bellville GC growing a young member program started in August 2016. This program is open to all junior members of Bellville Golf Club.

The goal of this program is not just to teach the young members the basic techniques and fundamentals of the game but also to teach them how to act, dress, behave and be a proud member of the club as well as knowing the rules and ethics of the game, the club and how to take care of the golfing environment.

The young members will learn the different types of competitions as well as how to score for different formats. They will also be exposed to golf instruction ensuring they are ready to play at a healthy level when playing with other members, guests and when representing the club in junior competitions ex. Junior league ect.

This is a open invitation to all young golfers of Bellville GC under the age of 18. The program will run every Wednesday 16:00-17:00, Bellville GC.

Contact us to book your junior's spot or if you have any questions.

If you have to grip the club too tightly, you’ll struggle to make a good, fluid swing.
You’ll find it even harder to swing on plane with a good swing path.

Your grip on the club needs to be firm and secure but relaxed. From there it is always easier to make a good swing.
Tighten up and golf gets a

Golf books often start with grip /stance / posture as the fundamental of our game.
But by the time readers have turned the pages to chapter 4, they’re now so bogged down in technique
that they’re having mental cramps.

Whatever swing you’re making, that’s the objective. If you’re struggling with ball striking, why not: get to the range; clear your mind; forget about distance and a target; and swing with only the objective of square contact? Let us know how that went.

We get so obsessed with getting the ball around the golf course that we often lose the joy of making square, solid contact. If you’re shooting in the 90’s or even higher, forget the scorecard and think “square, solid contact”. Come and see us. We can help.
