Here’s to wishing all our subscribers a very happy & prosperous 2018 - may the new year bring you everything you deserve. We approach the new year with much enthusiasm as we look to continue to build on all the good work and awards achieved during the past year. With the completion of improvements made to the infrastructure (shop, offices, 1/2way house and driving range) and the upgrading of course maintenance machinery, our main focus for 2018 will continue to be the constant development of the golf course. Working closely with Turfworx, we aim to seek best maintenance practices given the challenges posed by the prolonged drought in the Cape. Our golf course, being our no 1 asset will always remain our main focus of attention, to ensure we deliver the quality our players have come to expect of SA’s Best Golf Course.

2018 Club Championship

The 2018 Club Championship was one of the best supported ever, with a total of 69 players entering the men’s, ladies and seniors' events. The timing of this event is always tricky as we aim to stage the event at the time of year when most of our members are available to play. Special thanks have to go to our sponsors this year – Global Golf (main competition prizes), Swiss Sure (lucky draw prize), Mar E Jewellers (hole-in-one prize) and Louis 57 Academy (junior prizes). The event was a resounding success and some great golf was played in fantastic weather. Congratulations to our competition winners and thank you for your support.

Pinnacle Point Matchplay

It’s almost back to school time again and our holiday season for the national holidaymakers are also on its last leg. This being my first season at Pinnacle Point Estate I really saw what good planning does to insure good results. To give a bit of feedback on our experiences as staff this season, it was a real pleasure to work in the golf operations team. Ater some preseason planning sessions permanent staff really came to the party and understood what was expected from them. It’s really good to see people starting to appreciate their work place. It’s amazing to go to sites like trip advisor and see guests writing positive things about staff and service.

For the Performance Centre I believe the putt putt course has been the talk of the town with over 800 rounds in three weeks. The swing studio has also done some club repairs with loads of positive feedback from our cliental in that area. Please remember that all these exciting services are open throughout the year and we are happy to assist you with any of your golfing needs.

Everyone has at least one hole that spoils the card or round too often. If it’s a long Par 4, for most of us, it’s usually not the tee shot that causes us the challenge. The approach shot often requires a long iron / hybrid. Imagine you’ve hit the perfect shot. Now just three simple questions.

Operation 36: A shot to Master

If your handicap is 15 or above, then review your performance and technique on this shot.
It’s the short-pitch shot (between 15 - 50 metres). For most golfers, a 27 - 55 metre shot.
If you’re taking 3 or less to get down from here, every time, then your handicap should be dropping.
It’s worth investing some time and effort into improving and practising your technique.
