The New Rules of Golf will take effect in 2019 with lots of changes as the R&A & USGA have done their best to simplify the rules from 34 down to 24. Every golfer should get the new Rules Book to check out the changes. The SAGA should have them available later in the year and they will supply the Golf Union’s who will in turn send them on to the Clubs. Some of the changes you can expect are: • When you drop the ball you will drop it from only a few inches above the ground • A clublength will be changed to 20-inches and 2 clublengths will be changed to 80 inches (I’m sure these will also be done in centimetres) • You will only be allowed 3 minutes to look for your ball. Amazing how the topic of 'Slow Play' gets golfers going… A couple of points on slow play: 1. Golf carts are used by a large number of players. Playing partners should be dropped off at their ball with the correct club while you proceed to yours. 2. Remember that the average golfer plays one to two shots more per hole than the good golfer. Four hours per round for these golfers is not always feasible. 3. Increasingly more half way houses are promoting grab and go meals. 4. Big competitions should not allow beginner golfers without an official handicap to play. Not “Farewell” just “so long” and in with the "New" On a particularly sad note, Beverley, our Financial Manageress, has resigned due to family responsibilities. I will set aside a thank you letter to Bev closer to the time. On that note, 2 new appointments have been made since the start of March. Carla Jacobs, has been appointed as our Financial Manageress. Mar- Linde De Vos, Events and Catering Manageress. I will include a little back ground with regards these two ladies in next week’s newsletter. In the meantime, welcome to the both of you. I am confident that your journey here with us will be enjoyable, and that you will add enormous value to the Club and its members. A big thank you to Newtons who will be sponsoring the event again this year! | | The lists for the 2018 Club Championships are now up on the noticeboard. | One of the biggest differences between Tour Professionals and regular golfers is the amount of attention the very best continually pay to their setup. | | Rickie Fowler, in a Golf.com instruction piece several years ago, made the point that he continually worked on his grip, body alignment, stance width, and his posture (including the body bend and tilt) in practice with his caddie. To view this short Golf.com article on Rickie Fowler’s setup, | | | | I think most golfers can embrace Jack Nicklaus’s comment that it’s almost impossible to hit a good shot with a poor setup. So, the question is, why don’t golfers put more effort into this relatively simple process? Which, of the several potential reasons we’ve identified, do you think is the cause of so many poor shots on any given day? | | |
