Love or hate him, Tiger has a huge impact on golf.

Just one example is that his performance in the final round of the Valspar Championship was the highest-rated non-major PGA Tour broadcast since the 2013 Players Championship (which he won).

But how realistic is it that he could win another major? Certainly, there have been many players who have won majors in their forties, including Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Phil Mickelson and Mark O’Meara. However, none of them had all the health and personal issues that Tiger has had.

So can Tiger win?
Yes – and the Masters is his best chance for a few reasons: -

• He’s done it before at Augusta.
• He can get away with a few bad tee shots at Augusta.
• The Masters has the smallest and weakest field of all the majors.

Here’s a record of his performances at the Majors: -

He's missed fourteen of the last forty majors. He’s missed the cut in six, had eleven top 10 finishes and and has won only one. With players like Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson around, I for one won't be putting my money on Tiger to win.

 2019 Presidents Cup

Ernie Els and Tiger Woods have been announced as the Captains for the 2019 Presidents Cup.

Ernie was an assistant captain last year, but has played on eight Presidents Cup teams, with only one win. So you can imagine how badly he would like to win – and especially to get one over Tiger. Think back to Fancourt in 2003, when it came down to Tiger and Ernie in a play-off that went three holes without a result, and eventually ended in a draw because of darkness.

Tiger has also played in eight Presidents Cups. At 42, he will be the youngest ever captain and he would still love to play on the team. If he doesn’t qualify through points, you can be sure he would still be gunning for one of the four captains pick spots – which will be rather tricky because he is the captain (if I was Tiger I would put me in the team, with the way he's playing right now)!

A big thank you to Newtons who will be sponsoring the event again this year!

The lists for the 2018 Club Championships are now up on the noticeboard.

The dates are Saturday the 24th (book your own times) and Sunday the 25th will be a seeded draw, as is tradition.

Ernie Els and Jim Furyk have been given special exemptions to play in this year’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. While both are past winners - Els in 1994 and 1997 and Furyk in 2003, only 52 other players have been given special exemptions since 1966, with the last one being to Retief Goosen in 2016. Hale Irwin won the Open on a special exemption in 1990 at Medinah.

PGA / EURO TOUR - WGC – Dell Technologies Matchplay – Dylan Frittelli; Branden Grace; Louis Oosthuizen; Charl Schwartzel
PGA TOUR - Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship – Brendon de Jonge; Retief Goosen; Trevor Immelman; Rory Sabbatini
LPGA - Kia Classic – Lee-Anne Pace; Paula Reto

There are many variables that impact on the backspin created at impact.
Understanding some simple physicshelps us to get to the right combination of
launch angle, ball speed, and spin rate to add 20+ metres to your tee shot.

What if I told you that in many cases, fat or thin contact, or a swing-path-club-face-relationship
creating a fade or slice, can be traced to poor posture with incorrect bend and tilt at address?

Kellie Stenzel, in a Golf.com instruction video, aimed at golfers with an inclination to hit fat iron shots,
goes straight to your posture and upper body bend at setup, as a major cause of this problem.
Watch the video now with a good tip for an in-round checkup you can continually make.

Stenzel has a good tip in her video, but the question is, if you were asked to pull a Driver, and then a hybrid,
and then a #7 iron out of your bag and set up correctly each time; would you have the knowledge of the
key check points to a good setup?
Not sure?
