Club Pool
Our member’s club pool is now standing at R3400.
Please note that although the course is closed on Friday, we will still have the members club draw and we will light the fires for our popular “Bring and Braai” evening. Salads will be supplied on a first come, first served basis. Do join us in the bar on Friday night to stand a chance of winning the members draw.

Captain’s Comment

Dear Members,

In our Newsletter at the end of January, I advised you of a new initiative that will be included in all our newsletters from the beginning of February and we would like to explain how it will work. We are going to accumulate a list of all the prize winners in competition golf and record it on one database to make it easy for you to track your own over-all performance, as well as that of your golfing buddies. The results of our Wednesday and Saturday Competitions will be recorded as well as Friday’s Sundowners and most fundraising golf days. If you come first, you will be awarded 5 points, if you come second, 3 points and 2 points will be awarded for third place. These points will be accumulated over the year, so at any time you will be able to see who’s hot and who’s not. Non-members will be highlighted for easy reference.

You will recall that last November, I wrote an article in the newsletter about how handicapping is designed to give all amateur golfers an equal chance and this new ‘Competition Score Board’ will hopefully prove that to be true. I hope that you will enjoy the new link and I remind you that this is not a competition. The leader at the end of the year will not be receiving a prize.

Finally, we are aware that the bowled trees are becoming difficult to identify and this will be addressed in the next few weeks. More information on this will be in my Captain's Comment next week.

Have a great golfing week on our beautiful course and I look forward to sharing the results of Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses next week.

Have a great week!

A copy of the latest Rules and Regulations can be found on the following link, as well as on the website.

Hole-in-One
Congratulations to Knud Storgaard Jensen, a Danish Pro Golfer, who had a hole-in-one on our 13th hole on Sunday 4 February 2018. Knud used his 8 iron to ace the perfect shot - 137m. Knud plays off a +3 handicap. This is his 2nd hole-in-one in his golfing career (albeit his first was hole-in-one which did not qualify as he was practising on a hole). George Golf Club is one of his favourite golf courses to play in SA and he was very complimentary about the condition of our course. Well played Knud!

Windhoek Lager International Pairs
Congratulations to Louis Fourie and Hendry Kotze who are the first pair to win an entry to the Regional Finals which will be held at Plettenberg Bay Country Club later this year. They scored a whopping 52 points in the Betterball Stableford competition. The second pair to qualify for a round in the Regional Finals are Mark Cameron and Charly Coeries, counted in, on a score of 46 points. We wish these 2 pairs all the best in the Regional Finals.

Hole-in-one:

Friends of the Environment

We’re challenging all golfers who shoot in the 90’s or even above, to start a journey to better golf.
To target a score in the 80’s every time. Last week we kicked off a month of tips.
If you missed last week you can

Try taking out of your bag,
the clubs you can’t use consistently from the fairway, even if that
leaves you with just your #7,
#8 and #9 Irons and Wedges. Remove the temptation.
Now what did you score?

If your #7 Iron is the longest club that you can use consistently, then set yourself a
target to improve your #6 Iron. You’re looking to get to the level where you never badly hook or
slice your shots and, on at least 85% of the time, you’re hitting it within 10 metres of your target distance.
Don’t struggle hour after hour without any sign of improvement though. Let us help.
