Club Pool
Our member’s club pool is now standing at R4600. Join us in the bar on Friday night to stand a chance of winning it.

Our fires will be lit for those that would like to “bring and braai” with salads supplied on a first come, first served basis.

Captain’s Comment

Dear Members,

Well, the men’s Club Champs for 2018 are behind us and I must congratulate Devon Twigg for winning the ‘C’ division. I hope all that competed enjoyed the course which is currently in magnificent condition.

Last Friday saw the FAGS (Friday Afternoon Golf Society) inviting the Knysna Monday school for a friendly game. I was fortunate to meet some of the Knysna players and they too only had compliments for our course and organising staff. Well done to the George team who beat Knysna for the overall title.

In closing, I would like to ask all our George Golf Club members to ensure that they carry a pitch fork repairer with them. These are now a compulsory piece of equipment, as are sand bags. In future you will be asked to show the starter that you these items with you.

We continually ask all golfers to repair their pitch marks, and any others they may see on the greens, by doing this; we will be able to maintain the beautiful greens that we have. Your assistance in this regard will be much appreciated. I also ask that all smokers PLEASE carry an old bottle to dispose of your cigarette butts, or if you are in a cart, please use the butt buckets that are provided on the carts. I personally picked up over 100 “stompies” last week and they really do spoil the aesthetics of the course.

Attached please find a copy of the Competition Scoreboard.

A copy of the latest Rules and Regulations edition 6 can be found on the following link, as well as on the website.

Have a great week!

Yours in Golf

Club Captain

Thank you to everybody that took part in our sponsored day last Wednesday. A BIG thank you to JP from TaylorMade/adidas for the effort he underwent in having the driving net here for us. It really created a great atmosphere and the members that took part definitely enjoyed it very much. Our gratitude must also go to TaylorMade/adidas for the generous sponsorship – it is sincerely appreciated by all.

Please note the Pro Shop has got a special offer to all George Golf Club members to book a fitment on the new TaylorMade Twist Face technology at The Pro Shop in the month of March at NO cost. Book now!

Congratulations to Troy Lewis and Sarel Theron for hitting the straightest drives. Their drives were only 0.6 meters off centre. They each won a free fitment at The Pro Shop on the TaylorMade equipment.

Just a friendly warning to everybody, be careful to bet against Gavin Williams – he has the new technology in his bag and he is UNDOUBTABLY hitting it longer an MUCH straighter! :)

Looking forward to seeing you all at our next event - 28th March. The sponsor will be announced soon.

Yours in golf
Esmé Orr

Thank you to our very own club member, Austin Graves for sending us beautiful snapshots every now and again.
Austin has captured the beauty of the blown down tree on the 7th hole and has also caught up with 2 buck grazing on the course, oblivious to the golfers.

Looking for a 230 metre+ tee shot with an average swing speed?
Launching it higher will help. Just how high would you need to launch your tee shots?

One of the biggest differences between Tour Professionals and regular golfers is
the amount of attention the very best continually pay to their setup.

Rickie Fowler, in a Golf.com instruction piece several years ago, made the point that he continually
worked on his grip, body alignment, stance width, and his posture (including the body bend and tilt)
in practice with his caddie.

To view this short Golf.com article on Rickie Fowler’s setup,

I think most golfers can embrace Jack Nicklaus’s comment that it’s almost impossible
to hit a good shot with a poor setup. So, the question is, why don’t golfers put more effort into this
relatively simple process? Which, of the several potential reasons we’ve identified, do you think is the
cause of so many poor shots on any given day?
