Well done to our Met Ladies Silver League team!

Traci, Anthea, Debbie, Claire, Kathy and Bryony

Greetings from Brad,

The St. Patrick's Day Pro-Am was a HUGE success!

Lexi will update everyone else with the results further down in this letter – however, I feel the success of the event can be based on the following 5 factors which must be acknowledged….

Support of the club and members
Thanks must go to the club and members for allowing the event to go ahead on a Saturday and then paying the entry fee that supports such a worthy cause.

There was understandably some resistance, but I feel the decision to go ahead was ultimately justified by the success of the event.

If you were in any doubt as to what this meant to the Hurdy Gurdy House, then you just had to see Eddie giving his thank you speech….

We had a full field and the support of all the players was fantastic.

Condition of the course
The course has naturally taken some strain over the hot, windy summer and reduced watering. There has even been some unfair criticism of the course from those who must be uninformed or completely unaware of the conditions that have faced Francois and the course maintenance team over the last few months.

Throughout this period, the putting surfaces have remained very good and the course has even started greening up over the last few weeks. Personally I enjoy the course playing firm and bouncy – it may not look like Augusta during the Masters – but the course still played just fine. Capetonians should go and play Glendower, Bryanston and Royal Johannesburg during the winter months in Gauteng! It's funny how no-one in Johannesburg every complains about those courses going brown…..they’ve cleverly worked out that no rain = brown fairways and firm conditions and the courses will play differently in certain months. This is going to be the new normal for us privileged folk in the Cape!

But back to the pro-am: Between myself and De Waal, I don’t think there was one pro we spoke to who didn’t make a point of commenting on the greens: “best greens in the Western Cape”, “I’ve never putted on better”, “best greens in the country”, etc…..

I can guarantee that the 26 PGA Club Pro’s who played here on Saturday left the club as ambassadors for our course!

Sponsors
Apart from regular supporters of the Hurdy Gurdy, I’d like to thank my suppliers for continuing to support this event:

• TaylorMade for supplying 3 sets of prizes
• Titleist for providing golf balls for everyone and prizes
• Callaway for providing prizes and the putting demo
• Srixon Cleveland for providing 3 sets of prizes
• Under Armour, Swagg, Luca, and Bandit Distributors all sponsored prizes / gifts

A big thank you must go to Colin Bell and Premier Packaging who sponsored the shirts and caps – the players looked great!
To Keith Broad for supporting the prizes with Look Africa product – thanks Broady!

And then there are members such as Grant Cooper who couldn’t play this year, but always support the event. To others I’ve left out, I know James will have thanked you personally.

James and Lynn Mcnab
Their initiative and support has made this Pro-Am one of the most popular in the Western Cape – thank you to both of you!

Hurry Gurdy
All the above has meant that the Hurdy Gurdy has now paid for the bond on their property – largely due to this event – well done to all.

Over to Lexi…

Here are a few of our members enjoying a beautiful day on the course!

It was great to see so many of our members in the prizes!

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors! We appreciate the beautiful prizes donated for such a great cause! The players were overwhelmed!

Because of you, the Hurdy Gurdy House has finally raised enough money to pay off the loan on their home for adults living with autisim!
Thank you to everyone who participated in Saturday’s event; whether you played or purchased a raffle ticket, you contributed to something very special!

The Metropolitan Golf Club has been awarded with the key to the Hurdy Gurdy House! What an honour!

We have got you covered here in the Pro Shop!

Come in store and check out our wide ranges of golf gear, and step onto the course in style!

Congrats to the ladies who won their divisions!

Jill Rabie, Kathy Blumberg and Sue Moubray

There are many variables that impact on the backspin created at impact.
Understanding some simple physicshelps us to get to the right combination of
launch angle, ball speed, and spin rate to add 20+ metres to your tee shot.

What if I told you that in many cases, fat or thin contact, or a swing-path-club-face-relationship
creating a fade or slice, can be traced to poor posture with incorrect bend and tilt at address?

Kellie Stenzel, in a Golf.com instruction video, aimed at golfers with an inclination to hit fat iron shots,
goes straight to your posture and upper body bend at setup, as a major cause of this problem.
Watch the video now with a good tip for an in-round checkup you can continually make.

Stenzel has a good tip in her video, but the question is, if you were asked to pull a Driver, and then a hybrid,
and then a #7 iron out of your bag and set up correctly each time; would you have the knowledge of the
key check points to a good setup?
Not sure?
