One of the elements of The Mount Edgecombe Golf Academy that we are particularly proud of, is our ability to develop the ability of new and novice golfers. This may seem quite a simple task, but in over 25 years of teaching the one thing I have learned is that helping a golfer develop every aspect of their game from putting through chipping, pitching iron and metal wood play, requires a thorough understanding of the mechanics of the game and systematic approach to teaching.

An nice example of one of our success stories is shown in these videos. Isabelle and Roeland have recently moved to South Africa and approached me about learning to play a little better, judge for yourself their improvement in just 6 lessons

You simply run out of ways to say how good this performance was. I have definitely eaten my words as I never thought we would see Tiger look anywhere near as good as he did this week in his runner up finish at the Valspar Championship. He looks lighter and less bulked up, his swing is a joy to watch. Also worth noting was how good his sort game looked, what a difference from a year ago. I see there were also some comments about his swing speed measurements on Trackman that were promoted and have since been dismissed as erroneous, he is swinging very well but not at 129 MPH!

With the Masters coming up in 3 weeks’ time, it will be very interesting to see how he goes...

Some nice comments about Amy Fletcher, one of our up and coming Junior Golfers...

“So proud of the progress that Amy has made with her golf and thanks to Martin Smit her coach at the Mt Edgecombe Golf Academy. Her swing has suddenly got into a groove. She finished 8th out of 36 today for best gross for handicaps 10 to 18 and she was playing off a 17hcp! This in the KZN Amateur Champs”

Lift will play a significant part in getting your next flight off the ground. Back spin
generates lift for your golf ball, but how much is too much for you?

Peter Kostis, in a Golf.com instruction piece using Paul Casey, highlighted how
much improvement Casey had made by concentrating not on the latest swing gimmicks but,
but on the good old-fashioned setup and fundamentals.

This article shows Casey’s whole swing in pictures, but take special note of his perfect posture at setup.

Last week we asked you tell us why you think most golfers don’t concentrate on their setup
anywhere near as much as the very best golfers do. This week we’re challenging you to
answer that question for yourself. Is your alignment and posture good enough to give
you a chance of making a good shot? Not sure?
