A huge welcome to the new Food & Beverage Manager, Tania Hollingworth
The search is over, and we are delighted to welcome Tania to Oubaai Golf Club! Tania comes to us highly recommended from Fancourt, where she managed the Club Bar, Members Bar, Montagu Halfway House, Outeniqua Halfway House and the Poolside Bar.

Besides her time at Fancourt, Tania spent the best part of 14 years overseas managing various F&B operations including The Emirates Sevens Stadium Dubai, Fugairah Boutique Hotel Tennis and Country Club and the Sales, Events and Banqueting Manager for WAFI CITY.

Tania has overseen a number of bespoke restaurants and banqueting areas within those appointments, so we are really delighted that she has decided to bring her wealth of experience to Oubaai.

Obviously, changes take a bit of time, but I hope you will see the positive results in a short space of time. Please look out for Tania when you are next at the Clubhouse and I am sure you will all make her feel welcome and part of the Oubaai family.

Oubaai Ladies at Home

Oubaai hosted close to a hundred ladies in glorious weather on Friday at the annual Oubaai Ladies at Home day. A huge thank you goes to the sponsors, Investec and Jaguar. Also a big thank you to Rob and his team and Rohan and the ground staff for their contribution.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 Oubaai Ladies at Home event, Pippa Stroebel and Colleen Robinson (from Plett) with a staggering 49 points.

Captains' Golf Day
The first Captains’ Golf Day has set the bar very high! I would like to thank our Captain, Gawie van Heerden, for all his hard work, enthusiasm and passion for the Golf Club and for arranging the day. Gawie, my days are going to be a lot quieter now without the 10 calls a day!

Some 48 teams competed in a Bonus Bogey format for the highest honours. There was some unbelievable golf played on the day, with our winners putting in a fine performance! Congratulations to Pieter Smit and Marius Swart on achieving +14!

Thank you to all our sponsors that included: Carl Grobler (Imperial George), Gideon Hugo (Voda Shop George), Anton Hoephner (Third Generation), Neil Walsh Tucker (Callaway Golf), Oubaai ProShop, Marius (Brand House), Daniel Jordaan (SG Convenience), Darren (Pernod Ricard), Steve Erler (Oxygen Tyres), The Pro Shop George, Morne Strauss (Shell Kraaibosch), The Golfers Club George, Angus (Wildfire Distributors), The De Swart Family (De Dekke Spar), Fancourt Country Club, Jared Uys (Ernie Els Wines) and Clovelly Golf Club. Without your support, the day would not have been as special as it was!

The evening was rounded off with some great live music and a lot of festivity around the bar! A HUGE thank you to all our members and the guests who helped make this first Captains Day a roaring success.

Looking forward to a double first on the 1st
On April 1st, Turfworx will take over the course maintenance from Golf Data. On the same day, ASM Golf Academy will start operations at Oubaai. We wish them all the best for a long and positive association with Oubaai!

This is my 125th newsletter post and will sadly be my last. My days at Oubaai span just a few short ones now as the Superintendent of this beautiful golf course. Looking back over the journey of the past 3 and a half years have been mostly fond memories. We have faced numerous challenges on the golf course over this period and looking at where the golf course is at present, I must thank my tireless work crew. They truly achieve miracles each and every day they set foot onto the course.

From the Golf Data camp, the company is sad to be ending its tenure with Oubaai. Having begun construction on the golf course some 15 years ago, and maintenance thereafter until present day. Golf Data has always been passionate about Oubaai and the brand of the golf course. We have strived to ensure the golfers playability experience is as thoroughly enjoyable as possible. We hope that the membership, and visiting golfers alike were always “spoilt” when they pegged it up to play at Oubaai.

For the week ahead, the crew are continuing to neaten up bunker edges. Roughs continue to get trimmed to keep the grass in check. There is some clear definition out on the course between fairways and roughs at present, and we are doing our outmost to keep the rough in check. Grass and weeds in bunkers are being removed on an on-going basis. The 8th wetlands are having some soils worked into the back end to ensure no water leakage from the back end. Some bush-like trees will be planted along the edge of the dam this week.

We prepare the course for golfers out of love for what we do. Please care for the course too. The course is as much yours as it is ours on the maintenance crew. Keep your golf course tidy! Pick up litter, fill divots, and repair pitch marks. If it was your own privately-owned course, I would expect the same of you. Respect the course as if your own.

Thanks for the memories!

Over and out,
Rohan

You probably know how hard it is to find the short stuff from the tee box.
It’s fine margins at impact, so there’s an easy way to improve.

The experts continually tell us that without a good setup it’s almost impossible to hit a good golf shot.
They also note how little attention regular golfers pay to their setup. So let’s change that.
You’ve all got your smartphone. Let’s get those pictures taken!

Have a friend take a photo of you at address on the range. Check your alignment.
Check your posture and your tilt. How do your arms hang? Are you reaching or too cramped?

From face-on, check your width of stance; your ball-and-hand position; and your weight distribution.
Is your right shoulder (right-handers) lower than your left or are they level? What should they be?

If you want to hit more consistent golf shots, with cleaner, crisper contact, with the swing path and
face angle ensuring contact square to the target line, then invest some time into your setup.

If you send us the two pictures from the angles shown above, then we’ll gladly respond with some quick thoughts.
If you want us to take the photos and walk you through where you immediately can improve your setup, and therefore the quality of your golf shots, then
