On Wednesday, 21 February 2018, Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba presented the annual Budget Speech in the National Assembly. The main element of his speech that impacts your monthly membership subscriptions is the first rise in the value-added tax (VAT) rate since 1993, from 14% to 15%. This increase is effective 1 April 2018.

As a result of this legislated increase, your monthly subscription payment will increase with effect from 1 April 2018. Debit orders will automatically be adjusted with the increase. Please ensure that your EFT payments take the increase into account.

Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

Welcome to the first edition of the Play Better Golf Tips!
In this first segment, we are going to cover the grip and the importance of the correct grip. Furthermore we are going to cover some checkpoints, which will make it easier for you to check yourself and ensure a consistent setup.

Firstly, the grip is probably the most important part of the setup, as it is the only part of the body actually touching the club. You can see now how important it is to hold the cub 100% correctly.

Left hand grip
1. Get your clubface square.
2. Place the left hand at the top of the grip (right hand if you are left handed).
3. Place the grip at the base of the left hand fingers and curl the fingers around the bottom of the grip.
4. Close your left hand palm on top of the grip.
5. Pull your left thumb up so it forms part of the left hand.
Left hand check points
1. The line or v that forms between the thumb and index finger should point toward the right hand shoulder or
2. There should be three knuckles visible on the left hand or
3. The left wrist bone should be aligned on top of the shaft.
 Right hand grip
1. Grip against the base of the fingers and wrap fingers around the bottom of the grip.
2. Close the palm over the left hand thumb ensuring the left thumb is in the lifeline of the right palm.
3. Get the right thumb connected to the right hand.
Right hand check points
1. Left thumb should not be visible.
2. Left and right hand line or v should be pointing at the right shoulder.

Connecting the left and right hand overlap grip
1. Lift the pinkie finger on your right hand of the grip and slide the two hands against each other.
2. Place the pinkie on top of the left hand between the left index finger and middle finger.
Connecting the left and right hand interlock grip
1. Lift the left index finger and the right pinkie and interlock the two.

Try this as part of your routine and repeat these steps on every shot and you’ll see a lot more consistency in your game.

You probably know how hard it is to find the short stuff from the tee box.
It’s fine margins at impact, so there’s an easy way to improve.

The experts continually tell us that without a good setup it’s almost impossible to hit a good golf shot.
They also note how little attention regular golfers pay to their setup. So let’s change that.
You’ve all got your smartphone. Let’s get those pictures taken!

Have a friend take a photo of you at address on the range. Check your alignment.
Check your posture and your tilt. How do your arms hang? Are you reaching or too cramped?

From face-on, check your width of stance; your ball-and-hand position; and your weight distribution.
Is your right shoulder (right-handers) lower than your left or are they level? What should they be?

If you want to hit more consistent golf shots, with cleaner, crisper contact, with the swing path and
face angle ensuring contact square to the target line, then invest some time into your setup.

If you send us the two pictures from the angles shown above, then we’ll gladly respond with some quick thoughts.
If you want us to take the photos and walk you through where you immediately can improve your setup, and therefore the quality of your golf shots, then
