Final Results

Thank you for all those taking part in the 2018 President’s Cup. We hope you enjoyed your tournament experience and will play in our upcoming events. Please join us in congratulating our flight champions pictured below.

Left to right: Jerry Lazarus, 2017 Champion, joined by Bob Holliday, Gregg Deiboldt,
Dave Houghton, Garrett Luebker, Charlie Romain, and Harlan Gardiner

Our Flight Champions congregated on #6 East for the Championship Shootout. Bob Holliday and Dave Houghton both hit towering shots in to the green to setup their two-putt pars. Harlan Gardiner nipped his bunker shot to 10’ for his chance at par. It was Gregg Deiboldt and Charlie Romain that were eliminated with bogeys. Dave Houghton and Garrett Luebker covered the trees left on #7 East to have a wedge into the green; David hit it to 4’. Bob Holliday made a great up and down from the bunker for his 4, net 3. Garrett and David had a pair of pars after two-putting. Harlan failed to scramble and pushed the first chip-off where he was eliminated. On #8 East, Dave Houghton was penalized with an errant layup and was eliminated.

On #9 East our two finalists, Garrett Luebker and Bob Holliday, both found the fairway on their drives. Holliday played around the lake and Luebker hit into the greenside grass bunker. The two competitors were equal distance from the hole so a flip of the tee determined the order of play. Holliday earned honors on the flip and decided to putt his fourth shot from off the green above the hole only to find the bottom of the cup. With Garrett failing to scramble, Bob Holliday was announced the 2018 President’s Cup Champion.

The competitors of the March edition of Team Day were treated to stiff winds. Despite the challenging conditions, Debra McDermott (Red Team) and Pat Lyons (Yellow Team) managed to post 39 net stableford points, the highest totals on the East/West and South/East rotations, respectively.

In the Second Flight, Patty Koizim (Red Team) and Lis Petersen (Green Team) earned top honors with 33 points each. There was also a tie for the top spot in the Fourth Flight over on the South/East rotation. The match of cards favored Phyllis Peter-Mallard (Blue Team) with Linda Soud (Green Team) and Joan Hostetler (Red Team) following. Please visit the SWGA Website for additional results.

Next week, we look forward to the SWGA Member-Member. Tuesday and Thursday each feature a pair of nine hole matches starting at 8:30am. Did you know?

ForeTees has a feature that enables the “Peer Review” aspect of the handicap system. This feature allows a member to review their scores relative to the number of rounds recorded on ForeTees.

To help in your personal analysis, here are the steps that will help you to identify your missed postings:

• Log into the Sawgrass Country Club website
• Click on the “Reservations” menu at the top of the page and select “Tee Times”
• On the ForeTees page, click the “Handicaps” menu and select the “View Handicaps and Scores” link
• Finally, click the “Peer Review Report” to find your score posting summary

Nearly every round of golf is an acceptable score to post when playing with a peer. A member that plays 7 to 12 holes may post a 9-hole score. Those playing 13 holes or more may post an 18-hole score. The USGA Handicap System recognizes that there may be formats that are not able to be posted. When playing these formats (i.e. shambles, scrambles, alternate shot), notify that Golf Shop that you are playing a “No Post” round and they will mark accordingly.

The addition of the M3 and M4 Irons to the total TaylorMade Iron range, results in a complete and
hugely innovative set of approach shot choices for our golfers. Whatever your priority,
along with a fitting, we can make the right improvements to your ball striking performance.

Hitting good approach shots is more than a scorecard benefit, it’s exhilarating.
Are you looking to hit better approach shots?

The experts continually tell us that without a good setup, it’s almost impossible to hit a good golf shot.
They also note how little attention regular golfers pay to their setup. So let’s change that.
You’ve all got your smartphone. Let’s get those pictures taken!

Have a friend take a photo of you at address on the range. Check your alignment.
Check your posture and your tilt. How do your arms hang? Are you reaching or too cramped?

From face-on, check your width of stance; your ball-and-hand position; and your weight distribution.
Is your right shoulder (right-handers) lower than your left or are they level? What should they be?

If you want to hit more consistent golf shots, with cleaner, crisper contact, with the swing path and
face angle ensuring contact square to the target line, then invest some time into your setup.

If you send us the two pictures from the angles shown above, then we’ll gladly respond with some quick thoughts.
If you want us to take the photos and walk you through where you immediately can improve your setup, and therefore the quality of your golf shots, then
