There is no such thing as an effective swing thought.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t have any swing thoughts, but thoughts don’t hit the golf ball, clubs hit the ball and swings move the clubs.

Building an effective golf swing takes more than figuring out what to think about. You need to develop effective motions through practice, and effective practice is not measured in the number of golf balls you hit.

Here at Sawgrass we are fortunate to have some exceptional models of that practice. New Sawgrass Member Julian Suri, who recently recorded a top 10 finish at the PGA Tour’s Houston Open, has been spending time on the practice tee at the Club. His routine is deliberate. He spends far more time rehearsing the motion he intends to execute before he actually hits the ball. These rehearsals help him gain an awareness of what he is asking his arms and body do with the club. During a recent practice session I watched Julian take ten (10) minutes of rehearsals and hit only one practice ball. He rehearsed in slow motion, he held certain positions, he went back and forth from address to backswing, from address to finish.

Practice tools also help – you may see Julian working with a rubber band around his knees - video review is also an effective tool to learn the difference between “feel and real.”

So for your next practice session, see if you can be more deliberate with your practice, take time to feel more than the hit of the ball, feel the motion and gain awareness.

It also helps to know what to rehearse. To learn more about this, schedule a lesson with a member of the professional staff.

Congratulations to John Militante for his hole-in-one on Saturday, April 7, 2018. John holed out on #6 East from 162 yards. Mr. Militante had two aces in 2016 so another is expected soon! Great shot, John!

Happy 90th Birthday to Ms. Ginny Fritz, our 2018 Grandmother of the Year!

Last week we discussed the improvements in Driver face technology over the last 2 years.
The manufacturers are looking to accommodate the strike patterns of
the regular golfer (shown below).

Those improvements are about more than preserving ball speed as you strike the ball towards the toe and heel,
they’re also about preserving accuracy. Finding the fairway is really important, even to the best as shown below.

TaylorMade’s new Twist Face, found on the M3 and M4 Drivers, reduces the impact of strikes on the toe and
heel so that you’re more likely to find the fairway.

This shows you that from 170 yards in the fairway, the very best golfers are more accurate on
average than they are from just 100 yards but in the rough. That is why MOI (resistance to twisting)
is so important in the latest Drivers.

We’d like to work with any golfer interested in playing more often.
We’re keen to make sure everyone of our golfers is in the fairway off the tee more often.
Interested?

The quickest way to lower a score is to improve your short game and putting but, for many golfers,
the enjoyment on most holes is lost straight away. Poor tee shots land the golfer in trouble.
A walk to find a golf ball; or an immediate penalty shot.

If you’re interested in those two objectives, then we’re here to help.
For the vast majority of golfers we see: a more athletic setup; an improved take-away and turn;
and an improved sequence of movement on the downswing will deliver significantly
more distance to straighter tee shots.
Challenge us. Challenge yourself.
