What a great week for South Hills Course players and students.

It all started with a text at 7:34 am Saturday morning. Dave Nordyke texted to let me know that he had just recorded a Hole-In-One on hole #4 at Beaver Hills. This was Dave’s first hole in one and I suspect not his last. Dave also birdied #3 that day by hitting his approach to 2 inches. Congrats Dave!

Dave and I have been working on making sure he doesn't put his weight on the outside of his right foot. We do this by placing a rolled up towel under the outside of his right foot. This helps him feel of a proper pivot away from the ball.

Columbus Girls Golf Team

Columbus Girls Golf Team wins the NICL Conference tournament and place 2nd at 2A Regional qualifier.

They now move on to Sub State.

Zach has mainly worked with this great group of kids on proper posture, pitching, chipping and putting skills. Columbus is only losing one player in 2019 so I’m thinking 2019 is going to be a special year for the Sailors.

Hudson Pirates finish 3rd at 1A Regional and are moving on to Sub State.

Much like Zach I have worked on this group's proper posture, pitching, chipping and putting skills. As with Columbus, this group is only losing one player to graduation and I’m expect to see great results from them in 2019.

Megan Sawyer from Cedar Falls shot 78 at Ellis Park and finished 2nd at the 4A Divisional.

Megan worked on hitting it further all winter with me and boy did she ever start to hit it further. Her biggest gains in distance came from better posture and a strong release. She also improved the tempo of her swing through Tour Tempo training. Megan is currently ranked 4th in the state for 4A girls.

Morgan Weber from Dike shot 75 and was medalist at her divisional.

The Dike team is also moving on to Sub State.

I have worked with Morgan on proper alignment and pitching.

When you know how to practice - it makes your practice far more valuable!

For these players to become successful they have had to take what we have worked on, and practice these ideas, every time they have a club in their hands.

I’m extremely excited to work with anyone who wants to get better. Please contact us if you wish to succeed in your game!

Our Operation 36 program started this week and it is awesome to watch kids and adults have a ton of fun and learn better golf skills along the way.

South Hills is joining forces with Operation 36 to bring golf into your juniors' lives, one step at a time,
in a fun environment!

Operation 36 is a program where coaches, juniors, and parents all work together to
develop a youngster into a better golfer and person.

We are offering the 2 different levels.

And the fun doesn't have to stop there.
If you are an adult looking to learn or improve in a fun, social environment...

We are offering Junior Summer Camps this year.

These camps are going to emphasize having fun while learning to play better golf.

South Hills High School Series

This series provides high school golfers an opportunity to keep playing during the summer months while improving their confidence in a team atmosphere. These kids get a chance to carry over high school competitiveness into the summer against teammates and other areas' kids. They will be playing as two-person teams each week and their partners will change weekly. The cost is $10.00 per week for a green fee or free if they have a season pass.

Every Friday starting June 22nd starting at Noon. Attendance isn’t mandatory but rather come when you can.

PGA Junior League: 8 – 13 (Can't turn 14 before August 1st, 2018)

Having Fun with Your Friends.... PGA Junior League.
We had a great first year of PGA Junior League in 2017. Nine kids competed in 5 matches during last summer while having a blast making new friends, playing golf and learning life skills. We are excited for the 2018 season to start and are hoping for 20+ so we can have twice the fun.

PGA Junior League is a fun, social and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls to learn and enjoy the game of golf from PGA Professionals. Like many other recreational youth sports, participants wear numbered jerseys and play on teams with friends.

South Hills Golf Course is looking for kids ages 8 to 13 that want to have fun this summer. We will hold practices starting in May, and will be playing 4 to 6 matches starting in June and concluding July 31st. Our teams do travel to Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area.

The cost for the program is $175.00.

In the battle to convince golfers shooting 95 and over that they’re “good enough” for a customer fitting,
can I present you with a question to reflect on?

Would golfers in the learning phase of the game; the beginners; find it easier to learn the golf swing,
getting more shots airborne, find it easier with lighter clubs, with shorter shafts; and higher lofts?
Of course they would, it’s a faster learning experience.

The value of a faster learning experience, is a point that translates to golfers shooting over 95.

If a custom fitting creates 10 – 15 yards with your Irons, and more consistency of shot performance,
why wouldn’t you have a custom fitting?
Who cares whether we changed a lie angle, gave you a less stiff shaft, or even enlarged your grip?

You want the benefit. A better ball flight, more often. A more fulfilling round of golf.
A better on-course experience. More enjoyment with your friends.

Almost every golfer we custom fit for a set of Irons notes at least one dimension of measurable improvement.
Those with higher handicaps and the less skilled often see two, or even three,
dimensions of measurable improvement, IMMEDIATELY.
What could your improvement be?

When you’re practicing short shots, pay close attention to ball flight, carry, roll etc., especially when you change ball position, setup or club. Practice is a great chance to learn about your game. It’s knowledge you take to the course.

If I asked you what distance, the run-out on a 5 yard chip shot would be with your 48° Wedge;
would you know the answer?
How does that change if you play the shot to the same landing, but with a 52° Wedge?
Practice so you develop this knowledge.

Practice is about more than perfecting your technique. It makes you a better golfer

because your understanding of what the golf ball will do, should improve.

In the practice session above, you’ve set up tees at 4 yards, 5 yards & 6 yards from your chipping point,
with imaginary lines (between the tees at each distance). Take your 60° Wedge,
and attempt to chip the ball so that it will land between the 4 and 5 yards (watch the roll-out).
Then with the same club, between 5 and 6 yards (watch the roll-out).
Then just past the 6 yards line (watch the roll-out).
Now take your 56° and perform the same challenge (watching the roll-out).
Do this all the way up to your #8 Iron.

Challenge yourself in your practice. And learn at the same time.
Next time you’re on the course, put that knowledge to good use.
If you have a question about this skills challenge,
