This is the greens staff on Thursday 29th March out preparing the course for the opening tournament of the season. Well, the Opening Day Trophy was played for on Saturday, but in fairly miserable conditions, and although the starting sheet was almost full on Friday, in the end only 117 people played. It was bitterly cold and then we had snow/sleet and hail in the afternoon – not what you expect for Easter weekend! Well done to everyone who took part. The winner of the trophy is Gillies McDonald with a score of nett 69. |
This may be the scene at Lanark but at Augusta things are really hotting up! Who do you fancy to win? There are lots of contenders this year...

Ian Poulter – Love him or loath him he has to be admired for his sheer tenacity to get the job done. After being told 10 mins before he teed off in WGC Match Play that a mistake had been made and he had not qualified for The Masters as he had been told earlier, he lost the next match scuppering his chances. Never one to shirk from a challenge he then went on to win the Houston Open in a playoff against Beau Hossler. Will Phil Mickelson go on to become the oldest Masters Champion or will Tiger stun us with a win after finishing in the top five in four starts since his come back? Well and truely also in the mix are Rory after his win at Bay Hill, Justin Thomas who has finished in the top 4 in his last three events and Jordan who is starting to play well after a fairly indifferent start to the year. A good outside pick might be Paul Casey who after a long spell of not performing won, beating Tiger into second place, at the Valspar in Florida.
I’m sure you all have your favourites that you will be cheering on and I hope everyone enjoys watching what promises to be a great tournament!
We are also now a Lynx Fitting Centre with a range of clubs to suit all standard of golfer , woman or man, and every budget. If you have been watching the golf on Sky Sports recently you will have heard Nick Dougherty and Trish Johnson giving the new range glowing reports. Indeed Trish is crediting Lynx for her rekindled enthusiasm for golf and this is what she had to say about her new Prowler Forged CB Irons and Parallax Woods: Said Johnson: “The Lynx kit is fantastic. I’m not a player who chops and changes my equipment very often. In fact, I hadn’t been fitted for ages, and had played the same driver and woods for donkey’s years. But when I started testing the Lynx equipment I was so impressed. I’ve been getting significant distance gains with the irons and the driver, and I’m hitting my fairway woods better than ever. The Prowler irons really suit my eye perfectly, they’re such a lovely shape, and they feel is fabulous, so I can’t wait for the season to start. | | | |

| We’re putting a lot of effort into helping our golfers improve their experience out on the golf course this year. So, if you’re thinking of upgrading your Irons to take advantage of the ease-of-use innovations, then here are two numbers that really ought to interest you. | | | | Research fitting data informs us that less than half of golfers fit into a standard length shaft. Well over half of all golfers find it easier to hit better approach shots with a shaft of a non-standard length. | | | Look out for our fitting days. However, we’re always open for an individual assessment and fitting to suit your schedule. Improve your experience. | | |

| This month, our focus is your score on the Par 3’s you play. Let’s start that focus with some measurement. | | How many under or over Par were you on the Par 3’s in your last round? Start to make that a statistic you keep. Keep your average score per round. Make this a target for improvement. | | | Simple Tip #1 Tee the golf ball to the correct height to encourage consistency. | | | | | As well as tracking your score on Par 3’s, pay close attention to where your misses are. Do they reflect the same challenges you have on all approach shots? Improving your performance on Par 3’s will probably increase your enjoyment throughout the round. Think about improvement.
