As we are all aware we are in the middle of a serious drought situation. As a result of council water restrictions, far less waste water is finding its way to the sewerage processing plant resulting in less recycled water being available for us to use to irrigate our golf course. On top of this the pipeline broke. Because of the unusual pipe specification, it was difficult to source a replacement. This was done last Wednesday and repairs are now being made. We expect water being made available late this afternoon (Friday).
As the dam level dropped dramatically over this period we have had to restrict our usage to only irrigating our greens with just enough water to keep them alive.
In order to maintain our greens in a healthy condition we are cutting at a height of 3mm. This means that they will be slower than we would like but we think members would prefer us not to be reckless in maintaining our greens in a responsible manner.
During the course of the day our staff will be seen hand watering certain greens. We request players to please respect the fact that this is a vital task to preserve our greens by allowing them a chance to finish the job.
A number of greens have been infested with kikuyu. We are treating this with herbicide which has a blue dye in it. This is to identify the areas that have been treated. This dye is environmentally friendly and will dissipate over time.
The forest, behind the 7th green, is being tidied up by removing all dead branches. The waste will be chipped on site. These chips will be used to dress the bare mounds on the new part of the course.
We are always encouraged by those members who take the trouble to chat to us and show appreciation that the challenges we face are being dealt with as best we can under the circumstances.

| | The first time that happens, keep your score from that point and record it against your imaginary hole 1 (hopefully it’s 3 or under). The next time, record the score against hole 2, and so on, until you’ve completed 9 holes. | |
