Hello Everyone!

I trust everyone has enjoyed the beautiful weather we have been experiencing in the last week! The rounds of golf certainly indicate that this is the case!

Let’s start this week on that note. The increased rounds during the perfect conditions do mean extra wear and tear on the course. Divots and especially pitch marks increase proportionally. We know that 95% of our members are very diligent in this regard but please help anyone right who does not fill in divots or repair pitch marks properly, or at all. This need not be aggressively done of course. A quiet word and offer to assist often goes a long way in changing an entrenched attitude/habit. Together we really can improve matters.

While on this topic, Raymond’s staff will be repairing pitch marks on the following greens from this coming Monday in the following order - 3,6,9,10. Unfortunately he cannot tell which day they will be doing which hole, as depending on the number of pitch marks and staff available, it might take anywhere from 1-3 days to finish each hole, but the sequence will be as above.

A big word of thanks to Cedric Jewell who kindly donated the kick plates below the fridges in the Member’s Bar upstairs. This has made a big improvement to the aesthetics in the bar and was sorely needed. Thank you Cedric and if anyone has any air-conditioning or refrigeration requirements, give Cedric a call. The service is second to none!

Important Notice

The downstairs men’s toilet has been re-tiled and looks very good! A reminder that upgrades to the main locker rooms can also be done if we manage to sell all the Toyota Yaris raffle tickets. Just 1 book of 5 tickets per member will equate to a sizeable amount to enable upgrades like this. Please support this worthwhile initiative. Tickets are available at the Club office or from the Manager on Duty after hours.

Give yourself a Bell's!

Hearty congratulations to Steve Burdett who was the winner of the Bell's TaylorMade Golf Bag Competition drawn over the weekend. A reminder that there is still another identical bag available, so buy your Bells and stand a chance to win this fantastic prize.

The Westlake Foursomes/Soccer World Cup & Wimbledon

Sunday is the eagerly anticipated Westlake Foursomes played over 36 holes. It should be a great day’s golf. The World Cup final is at 17h00 too, so all members are invited and encouraged to pop down to the club and watch the game. Westlake Kitchen is providing pizza for the Foursomes, so the Pizza Oven will be in operation until 18h00 should members and their friends and family wish to have a pizza while enjoying the game. In addition, the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final is also on Sunday afternoon. Why not watch it here?!

Top 16 finals

This Saturday is Top 16 finals over 36 holes. Good luck to all the competitors.

SF Waterson Trophy

A Reminder that Sunday 22nd July is the SF Waterson Trophy. This is Mixed Foursomes and sponsored by Food Lovers Market. Entries are open and you can book with the ladies in the office or call us - 0217882020

Royal Cape Open

Kyran Hawkins, now playing out of Westlake, did enough to win the PAT – Royal Cape Open held on Sunday with his opening round of four-under-par putting him in pole position after round 1, followed by a two-under-par 70, which was enough to stay ahead of the field on 138, finishing one stroke ahead of runner-up Tyran Snyders. Westlake’s Pietie Loubser figured out how to play the course in his afternoon round – he overturned a five-over-par 77, to a five-under-par 67 final round – total 144 to finish tied fourth with Clovelly’s Yul Tsai. Well done, Gents!

Have a great week and see you at the club!
