Hello everyone

What's coming up at the club?

Nic and I are away at the annual Western Province Manager’s Conference this week but will both be back for the Greenkeeper’s Revenge on Friday.

Let’s begin this week with the Greenkeeper’s Revenge. Another of our fantastic festival events, this one falls squarely in the FUN category! Bookings are open at the office and we are all looking forward to a day filled with laughter. There are still a few spots available. To book your spot, please contact the office. Cost for members is R130pp and visitors R310pp. This includes your golf, prizes and a light snack after golf.

This Saturday will be Foster Cup Qualifying. We were supposed to have the Keith and Ann Lloyd Trophy running in conjunction with this but unfortunately Derek Lloyd is unable to attend and has asked us to postpone the trophy event to a later date in September as he would like to attend and sponsor. We will advise on the new date for the trophy soonest.

The next Open Mixed is this coming Sunday 29th July and is proudly sponsored by Courier It. The last Open Mixed was great and we have every reason to believe this one will be better yet. There will be a prizegiving and dinner upstairs after golf and Peter and his team have promised us another delicious meal. See you all here. There are still a few spots available. If you would like to book your spot please contact the office. Cost for members is R110pp and visitors R330pp. Prize giving will take place in the upstairs function area where the delicious meal will be served prior to prizegiving. On that note, we would like to thank Courier IT for their sponsorship and for committing to sponsoring all our 2019 open mixed competitions. Your support and generous sponsorship is truly appreciated.

Competition news

Good luck to all our Sanlam Cancer Challenge winners who qualified for the finals at Clovelly this Sunday. They are Neil Campbell (A Division), Nigel Martindale (B Division) and Neil Balfour (C Division) and ladies Tessa Granger (A Division), Edwina Burger (B Division) and Alison Gilbert (C Division). All the best!

Giving back to our caddies

As mentioned last week, in conjunction with Madiba’s 100th birthday celebrations, we are having a charity drive for our caddies. This is in the form of any clothes, shoes, blankets, household appliances and utensils, non-perishable food or even a monetary donation. Anything that could make a difference in the lives of our caddies and their families will be gratefully accepted. The closing for any donations will be Monday the 20th August 2018 as we will be doing the hand-over at the Caddie Champs on the
27th August 2018.

Are you feeling lucky?

We would like to thank everyone who has supported the 2018 raffle ticket drive. Ticket sales have increased over the past month or so, but we still have a long way to go to reach our target. Please support the drive as this is for the club's benefit as well as for our members. Ticket sales will close on the 19th November 2018 and the draw takes place at the 2018 Big Bash Party which will be held on Saturday the 24th November 2018.

No butts about it...

I am sure you are all aware that there is a new smoking law which will come into effect soon, and as a result we are in the process of revising our designated smoking areas around the clubhouse. We realise that it can potentially cause upset to some members however we have no choice but to comply to legislation.

We will endeavour to advise all of you as soon as this comes into effect. We thank you for your understanding.

Staying a member at the Jewel of the West

The end of the 2017-2018 financial year is upon us and Emelia has started her membership end-of-year process. If you have any questions pertaining to your membership for the upcoming year, starting on the 1st September 2018, please contact her on membership@westlakegolfclub.co.za

Please help us take care of our beautiful course

Please keep your carts off tee boxes and away from greens surrounds and remember to repair pitch marks and divots!

Two years ago the captain introduced the policy to fill divots in the rough as well as the fairway. All members are please reminded to conform to this policy as it has been noticed that there are many divots that have not been filled accordingly. This looks particularly bad in the winter months as the turf takes longer to recover.

Have a great week!
