Firstly, I would just like to say thank you to everyone that sent messages for my birthday last week. It is truly appreciated and I am so thankful that the game of golf has allowed me to build so many wonderful relationships, with so many different people, from all over the world.

This year, as a present from my wife, we got tickets to go and watch day three of the 3rd test between SA and Australia in Cape Town. I was so excited to go and watch, as not only had it been over 15 years since I last watched test match cricket live, but also because this series was turning out to be one of the best in recent memory. My Mrs had never been to a test match and truth be told, wasn’t overly excited at the idea of watching cricket for 8 hours. It’s one thing taking her to watch a football match that’s over in 90 minutes, or walking the course at a golf event, but trying to sell the excitement value of a full day at the cricket was a completely different proposition all together.

However, I really didn’t have to do much selling at all as not only did we get to watch some amazing cricket, but we were in the stadium when one of the biggest scandals unfolded right before our eyes. I’m sure many of you know all the details, and have seen all the media coverage, so there’s no need to delve into the story further, but I’ll just add one little side note that seems to sum up things rather nicely.

My wife’s name is Kama and considering what transpired during the afternoon of that 3rd day, it seems ironic that she was there watching for the very first time when it all went horribly wrong for Steve Smith and his Australian team.

We had an amazing weekend in Cape Town. We visited the Zeitz museum at the Waterfront, which was an incredible experience, and even managed a little hike up Lions head on Sunday morning. Even with all the drought issues facing the city, Cape Town is just one of those places where beauty is found wherever you look.

I’ll be back in the office this week and will resume my normal routine, which will make for a welcome change considering all the travelling I've done these past few weeks. Easter is fast approaching and with the schools closing up for the holidays this week, I’m hoping that we get loads of visitors to our town over the next 2 weeks. On that note, both the shop and range will be closing at 4pm on both Friday 30 March and Monday 2 April due to the public holidays.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Thriston Lawrence, a young player I’ve been working with, on winning the Sunshine Tour Qualifying School at Randpark this past week. Having lost his card at the end of the season, Thriston produced some wonderful golf over 5 gruelling days to win by 4 strokes and gain back his tour card for the 2018/2019 season. I am very proud of Thriston for showing some incredible grit and determination under some very trying conditions and look forward to the next chapter in his young career.

In closing, be sure to check out this week's Weekly Deal as we are running a great special on all our caps. Andy’s weekly review takes a look at the latest iron offering from PING, the G700, and from the looks of things this an iron that’s definitely going to be worth trying this year.

Until next week,
Pete

Hey Golfers!

So it's that time of the year when all the new products are out and available to be tested - there is, however, one new product on its way to us this coming week and that is the much anticipated PING G700 Irons.

I had the privilege of testing these irons way back in November 2017 and from the very first shot I knew that these irons were going to be special - not because of the brand, but because of the absolutely awesome performance and feedback I got from hitting different shots with these irons.

What tech can be found in these irons?

Powerful Design - The hollow-body construction of the stainless steel head allows for an internal design that positions weight away from the face, creating a frame for metal-woodflexing and a higher COR.

Maraging Steel - One of the strongest alloys in the world, C300 Maraging steel increases ball speed and distance by generating twice the face flexing.

Forgiving Sole - Sole width, bounce and offset allow for better turf interaction to improve ball striking, which contributes to forgiveness and distance control without sacrificing playability and height.

The only words that keep coming to mind is “truly spectacular”. I believe that it is going to slot straight into the market, especially for all you PING fanatics out there looking for a touch of forgiveness, while still looking at a very nice profile at address.

Till next time, hit it straight.
Andrew

Scratch Golf Primary School league gets underway

Last week, Knysna Golf Club played host to the first event of the newly formed primary school league for Knysna and Plett. There were 7 schools represented, with 3 different divisions and kids from grade 1 all the way to grade 7. In total there were 37 kids competing on the day.

This was the first event of the year but the initial feedback from the schools, parents and children has been really promising and the signs are there that this could potentially grow into something really big.

A massive thanks to Morten for all his hard work in getting this off the ground. Morten is making massive progress with junior golf in this town and due to his unrivaled passion for what he does, he continues to grow the game each and every week.
