Greetings from Kevin Friday, 30 March 2018

The 2018 golf season is just about here.

Unfortunately, what once was looking like an early start to the golf season just a few weeks ago, has turned into a waiting game due to the recent barrage of nor’easters we have enjoyed.

Although no official opening date has been set, barring any more last minute curve balls from Mother Nature, we will be playing golf at LGC very soon. It has not been confirmed to me yet, (probably because of the current snow cover) but I anticipate that the course will be closed to play prior to the official opening. There is plenty of work to be completed to get the golf course ready for play.

Even though the golf course is not yet open, preparations are underway for the new season. Bob and his crew have been working on course cleanup. Patty Walters (we are sooo fortunate to have her back for another season!) has been busy working on menus and getting the kitchen/dining room ready for the new season. The golf committee has been busy working on the tournament schedule for 2018. Now finalized, it will soon be posted to the new, totally redesigned, club website. The handy-dandy printed pocket version should be available in the shop in about a week or so.

With one week to go, the Masters count down is on. It is one of the most anticipated events of the entire year, and this year’s tournament is shaping up to be one for the ages. So many of the world’s best players are rounding into form it is hard to pick a favorite. And with Tiger back on the prowl there will certainly be some “must see” TV next week. Every year, the Masters seems to deliver remarkable drama on Sunday. I am sure this year will be no different.

CHECK YOUR GRIPS:
In the meantime, it is time to dig the clubs out and get them dusted off. This is also the perfect time to check the condition of your grips. The dry winter months has undoubtedly taken its toll on them. Whether stored in the house, garage, or even worse yet, your car trunk, most grips are ready for replacement after the winter. I see many golfers who try to get some extended play with old worn out grips. Sometimes grip wear is hard to detect because it can be so gradual. The fact is, once the grips have worn out, more grip pressure is required to keep the club from slipping in your hands. This added grip pressure increases tension in the swing and does not allow for the proper release (rotation) of the hands and club head. Grip replacement . . . it might just be the first step in curing that dreaded slice!

There are some awesome new grips available this year. So bring your clubs by the shop sometime for a free grip evaluation. If new grips are in order, we can get them installed in 1 day.

Pitch and Putt was always a good game

Some golfers will describe other courses as a ‘Pitch and Putt’.
I’m not sure how they mean it, but we’d like to suggest that ‘Pitch and Putt’ is actually a great game.
