This week really signals the end of the summer season. Not only can you feel the change of temperature with crisp mornings and cooler evenings, but as schools return for the 2nd term and our foreign guests head home, the signs are clear that low season is very much upon us.
 | | Running a business in a holiday town definitely has its pros and cons. On the one hand, when it’s busy, it’s really, really busy and with that there’s a feeling of energy and excitement as things are continuously happening and you’re always on the go. On the other hand, the busy summer months means longer hours, less time with friends and family and while everyone else is having fun, your staff are working harder than ever. However, when summer ends, business really slows down and for many it’s a question of just covering costs over the winter and using the hard earned profits from the summer to keep things going during the low season where business is slow and tough. |
The point of all this, is that running a business in a town like Knysna is not just about the foreigners and holiday makers. The locals are a vital component in the sustainability of any business and without the support of the locals, no business can survive. Towns like Knysna can only grow if the locals support one another. So, if there is one thing you can do this winter that can make a difference, keep it local and be a part of a community that needs the support of one another.
