So it’s been a busy two weeks for the Scratch Golf team.
| It all started with the 2nd event of the Knysna / Plett Primary School league, with primary school teams from both towns taking on the challenge of the wonderful Plett country club. There were 38 kids who participated and judging from all the photos, it’s clear to see that all the children relished the opportunity to compete on such a fantastic golf course. Morten has done a magnificent job in getting this program off the ground and there is no doubt that this initiative will continue to grow from strength to strength. | |  |
 | | The Scratch Golf Junior Academy now has over 30 kids actively participating in weekly classes and this is due to all the time, dedication and unbelievable passion Morten has brought to this program. For those that would like to see what we’re doing and how the program works, please feel free to pop down to the range on Tuesday through Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm to see how much fun these kids are having. |
Last week Monday also saw us host the first PGA Pro Am for 2018. The golf day was held at Simola and we had a fantastic turnout with 22 Pros and 88 players in total taking part in the day. With benign conditions and a superbly conditioned golf course, scoring was always going to be good. Neil Walsh Tucker took home the professional honors with a fine 2 under par 70 to win by 1 stroke over over three other PGA Professionals that included Altus. As for the alliance competition, the winning score came in at 89 points from the team of Cliff Barnard (PGA Pro), Andrew Barnard, Bryan Kearney and Simon Hunt.

This was the 7th edition of the Scratch Golf Pro Am and as always Investec were on board to cover the Professionals prize fund for the event. This year we also had the wonderful support of Cobra / Puma who helped us tremendously with all the prizes for the alliance competition. This year the total prize table was worth over R20 000 at retail value, so a massive thank you to Wayne McFall from Cobra for all his help.
 | | The golf course itself was just superb, with the greens in particular looking better than I’ve seen them for a while. Du Toit, the head green keeper, continues to do a fantastic job at the course and the amount of compliments we received on the day is testament to all the hard work him and his team have put in. If you haven’t played the course in a while, or are looking to get down here for a weekend, then I’d strongly suggest booking a round at Simola.
And lastly, a massive thank you to Alistair Beaumont, Lara Jamieson and all the staff at Simola for all their hard work on the day and helping us run another successful installment of the Scratch Golf Pro Am. |
