It was nice to get back to relative normality. This week we saw some very welcome rain and some very strong winds. The rain was great, the wind was not so great! Our numbers of golfers always take a dive in winter and this one is no exception, but it is kind of nice not being so busy. This gives us all a little time for some leave and down time. Strydom has been off seeing his parents back in warm Limpopo, but he is back next week.

This week we start with some really good news, which in this day and age is extremely welcome. One of our members, Brandon Shaw, (same last name, but no known relation - maybe he’s a long lost cousin!) went up to Gauteng and competed in the South African Disabled Golf Open at Magalies Park. We are so proud to announce that he won his division!

Many, many congratulations Brandon, you have done us proud. The tournament was a 54 hole event and our man managed to win by a mighty 17 points, which in golfing terms means leaving the rest in his dust! He had round of 47 points, 44 points and 43 points, tournament total 137 points, absolutely fantastic golf. Brandon won the C division, Les Autres trophy and overall best nett! Great job, Bran.

Mark Brummer, playing at Goose Valley, managed to join the elite group of hole-in-one’ers! Pictured here with playing partners Shaun Smith and Simon O Sullivan, they were all attending John Quincey’s wedding. Many congratulations Mark, I bet there were a few aching heads the next day!

The first time I heard this one Tiger was ruling the world of golf, so it's a little out of date, but still a good one.

Arnie, Jack and Tiger Before God
Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are standing at the throne of heaven. God looks at them and says, "Before granting you a place at my side, I must ask you what you have learned, what you believe in."

God asks Arnie first: "What do you believe?"

Arnie thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans." God can't help but see the essential goodness of Palmer, and offers him a seat to his left.

Then God turns to Nicklaus and says, "What do you believe?"

Jack says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. Like Arnold, I believe in hard work. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields."

God is greatly moved by Jack's high-pitched eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right.

Finally, God turns to Woods: "And you, Tiger, what do you believe?"

Tiger replies, "I believe you're in my seat."

“Both these golfers see golf as a social pastime. It’s an opportunity to have an enjoyable outdoor hobby that they can enjoy with friends. They like to hit good shots but know they won’t have the time or inclination to commit to be as good they can be. But both could increase the number of good shots they hit quite easily if they looked for the easy, big wins open to most golfers.”

Your distance potential is determined to large extent by your clubhead speed and we
want to make sure you’re not losing out. We can do this using a combination of appropriate technique
adjustments and golf-specific fitness exercises.

Clubhead speed, as the name suggests, is the speed of the clubhead immediately before impact with the golf ball,
and it has a big impact on your potential distance.

Until next week have a great one.

Cheers,
Julz and the team
