Welcome again All, and wow what a week it has been...Not easy for us, not easy for the residents of Zwelhile. The strike action has continued, Helen Zille has been here and was pelted with stones, businesses have been broken into and trashed, people's clothes taken off them and burnt, a cat has been burnt alive and the recording aired. People have been prevented from leaving the township and that hurts us all. I pray this will come to an end soon. At the club we have operated on the bare minimum of staff, everyone has come together and helped. Many thanks for all the offers of help, it is extremely appreciated. I have found the Facebook page mywhalecoast to be unbelievably informative and well done to Martinus for his outstanding efforts to cover the ongoing crisis. There has been mention of bringing in the army, and there has been many meetings. Let’s hope this all comes to an end and the perpetrators of the violence bought to book. As some of you may have noticed we have a new noticeboard, situated by the scoreboard. The old one was literally blown to pieces. One of our business owners Deon Muller, operates Red Chair and made it for us free of charge, many thanks Deon! Anyway each Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday you will see the day's notices on there, the green speed, the notes concerning the course for the day and the weather prediction. Hope you like it! I love good news stories. And here is a peach, many congratulations to Mike and Margaret who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this month. They renewed their vows in Mauritius and sent this photo in! Well done indeed, myself and my wife celebrate our 25th next year so I can appreciate the effort Mike has put in! Oh sorry that should read the effort they have both put in! Only kidding - congratulations to you both, wishing you many more! | On a serious side, a little public info. It is a well known fact that there are tragedies that happen on a golf course, wether it be being hit by stray golf balls or hit by lightning. All golf clubs in the north and middle of South Africa have a lightning detector system and siren. Our weather pattern has changed and we have had dangerous conditions of both wind and lightning. We have purchased a loud siren to alert golfers of imminent danger. If you hear this siren, please evacuate the golf course immediately. Do not play out the hole or the like, just leave the course. Thanks. This week I want to say well done to our Greens Superintendent Malcolm Bromley and our General Manager Sharon Sleigh who featured in a Supersport insert this week talking about our lovely course and the upcoming Global Challenge. It looked great, I know talking to the camera is a tremendously diffcult thing at the best of times, and it came across very well!
