The Open Championship at Oubaai

Saturday saw the first Open Championship in Oubaai. We had a good set of entries and much fun on the day. After selecting their Pro partners from the Open Championship field on Wednesday, the best round from their pro from either Thursday or Friday, was selected. Their medal score was converted to an IPS score (as if the pro was playing off scratch).

The member’s IPS round was combined with their pro partner’s best round to give the final result. After some fierce competition, we had our first winners!

A huge congratulations to our Open Champions for 2018, Marialese Coetzee and Tommy Fleetwood on a very good combined score of 78 points! Second place went to Wayne Collet and Tommy Fleetwood on 77 points (counted in) and in third place was Gavin Melville and Justin Thomas on 77 points (counted out).

A very special note of congratulations to young Nathan Jacobs on making a hole-in-one on the 6th. A very big thank you to Dad, Brian, for the round of drinks! Thank you to everyone for your participation and wonderful support.

Re-reslope at Oubaai

The GolfRSA team visited Oubaai for the second time to ensure the slope rating considers all the changes at Oubaai. All four courses have been marked with coloured bricks on all the tee-boxes and slope rated as follows:

Men | Stroke | Slope
Yellow | 74 | 134
White | 70,7 | 125
Blue | 67,9 | 117
Red | 64,6 | 107
  Ladies | Stroke | Slope
Blue | 74,2 | 124
Red | 70 | 115

Our next task is to achieve more unified strokes (ladies and men) on each hole to ensure maximum compliance to the new system. We’ll keep you posted on progress.

Until next week,
Rob

We are busy preparing for the bumper weekend, with Els for Autism on Friday, Oubaai Seniors on Saturday and the Sanlam Cansa Regional Finals on Sunday. We are hoping to show Oubaai at its best, weather permitting!

As always, we are busy with maintenance and continuously sifting bunkers to improve the bunker experience at Oubaai.

The greens are also receiving a spray to assist the foliage as well as a wetting agent to offset the recent unexpected dry heat.

Dam at 8 seems to have an additional leak so we are putting heads together with the HOA to find a solution.

We received a great deal of compliments on the condition of Oubaai during the recent Oubaai Open which was very well received by the management and maintenance team at Oubaai.

We appeal to members to please keep your carts on the cart path, especially around the greens and to repair pitch marks.

Enjoy the cooler weather over the next few days!
Igor

We’ve ticked off Putter balance; good looks; Putter length; and now we’re going to evaluate ‘swing weight’
as we help you find the perfect partner for the putting green.

Your Putter is your precision tool. If the
swing weight is too low it makes it more
difficult to control longer Putts.

If the swing weight’s too high
you lose control.

There’s a tend to shortening the
length of the putter and /
or using a heavier grip.
Both of those changes to
an existing putter,
will lower swing weight.

The final check:
tuning your stroke and
the putter loft to create
the perfect roll.

The first three ‘dating steps’ to find the right putting partner were focused on helping you square the face
down the target line at impact. Your perfect swing weight will help you hit much better first Putts,
and ensure your short pressure Putts are easier to handle.

You may have played golf for health and well-being, social, and recreational reasons for 20+ years.
You have had some coaching in the beginning, but since then you’ve only had “fix” lessons. I
f you’re shooting in the low 90’s or high 80’s, you have proven athletic ability.
How good could you be?

This isn’t about pumping iron and becoming the young stud.
It’s about maximising the potential of technique and timing. Get that right and:

If that’s a golf experience that appeals to you, then please don’t wait.
Start the journey to hitting even better golf shots.
