It had to happen sometime! We had our first hole-in-one on the new course on the 15th hole. The lucky gentleman was none other than Carl Uys.

He tee'd off and pushed his shot slightly to the right, the ball bounced left on top of the mound on the right of the green, second bounce down the hill, third bounce over the rough and onto the green and then slowly proceeded towards the hole.

Carl was standing on the tee shouting “get in the hole, get in the hole...oh shucks!"

Not only did he receive R500 from the club, one of our members residing in New York gave me $100 on 21 December 2017 with the specific instructions to give it to the first member that has a hole-in-one on the new course on a competition day. Thanks to Ryan Hermanson for this wonderful gesture, Carl really appreciated it.

To top it all, it was Carl’s first ever hole-in-one as well! Well done my man and may there be many more.

A friendly reminder that we will be having our annual Sanlam Cancer Challenge this Saturday for both ladies and men, so please come and support this worthy cause.

It’s that time of the year again and this year we will be playing during the winter months. Thanks to all that have put their names down for this 'lekker' event. Click here for the details of the event.

If someone still wants to compete you better hurry, because
entries close tomorrow.

Tee boxes for ladies on the new course
We have 3 problem areas on the new course when it comes to the safety of our ladies when the men are teeing off. These are holes number 2, 14 and 16.

On hole 2 we ask the ladies to please wait before the bridge until the men have tee'd off. We will put a stop sign (like on the 3rd) to warn the players.

On holes 14 and 16 ladies must please walk with the men to their tee to ensure that no one gets injured.

Signs will be erected asap and we will be looking at other alternatives for these holes.

WP Girls Golf
Right girls, it’s your turn to come and play!

See the poster to your left for all the details.
You can click on the poster to enlarge it.

What a great idea. We would love to see support for this effort, because they will be doing their practical on our course as well!

So, if you know of some girls that are keen, let them know.

David Feherty’s
stand-up show is all about his life in golf, drinking and lots of stories about life on the tour. Here's one:

It was back in the 70's and a soon-to-be prominent golfer (Ray Floyd) was playing at Augusta in his first Masters. Back then the players could not bring their own caddies but had to use one of the locals. Floyd told the caddy master he wanted a big fellow who could handle his bag, but who also would keep quiet, no advice needed.

The caddy who was assigned Floyd said, "Hello Mr. Floyd."

Floyd said "Hello" and followed that with: "That's the last I want to hear from you unless I ask you a question."

Everything went well until the 10th hole when Floyd pushed his drive into the right trees on the par 4. After surveying the scene he said out loud, "I'm going to hit a low fade out through that opening to carry and land mid green and then roll over the crest down near the hole."

Surprisingly he pulled it off exactly and turned to his caddy and said, "How's that?"

The caddy spoke for the first time and said, "That wasn't your ball."

And a few David Feherty one-liners:

On Tiger Woods: “I just stood there watching him walk past and thinking, ‘I don’t know what that is, but I know there weren’t two of them on Noah’s Ark.”

On Phil Mickelson's aggressive style of play: "Watching Phil Mickelson play golf is like watching a drunk chasing a balloon near the edge of a cliff."

On watching Tiger Woods hit a great shot: “Never has my flabber been so completely gasted.”

On Jim Furyk’s swing: “It looks like a one-armed man trying to wrestle a snake in a phone booth.”

Again, on Furyk’s swing: “It looks like an octopus falling out of a tree.”

On dancing: “I don’t dance. The Irish don’t dance, we hold each other up.”

Now do you understand why I love the Irish?

Your distance potential is determined to large extent by your clubhead speed and we
want to make sure you’re not losing out. We can do this using a combination of appropriate technique
adjustments and golf-specific fitness exercises.

Clubhead speed, as the name suggests, is the speed of the clubhead immediately before impact with the golf ball,
and it has a big impact on your potential distance.
