So I’m off to London later today to spend a few days with Branden at Wentworth for the PGA Championship. It has been a while since I last worked with Branden, but I’m really looking forward to getting some good prep done whilst also experiencing one of Europe’s biggest tournaments. The PGA is steeped in history and is played each year on one of England’s most iconic layouts. This event in particular has sprung a few surprise winners over the years, but has also produced some incredible battles between some of the game’s best players. I’m sure this years edition will prove no different.

Our Junior Program is really starting to take off with no less than 2 events taking place during the course of last week. On Monday, Knysna Golf club played host to the 3rd leg of the Knysna/Plett Primary school league. We had 40 children playing in 3 different divisions and the growth and improvement shown by all the children has been incredible. These events are aimed at growing the game and giving young children an opportunity to play on a big course and it’s amazing to see that not only are these kids are getting better all the time, but more importantly that they are all having a huge amount of fun playing this great game.

On Friday, Sedge Links played host to the Tekkie Town Junior league. 4 teams from the Knysna / Plett region were able to take part and again the numbers clearly showed that junior golf in the this area is definitely on the rise. The day's highlight came on the very first hole where one of youngsters had a hole-in-one. The day proved to be massive success with all the kids and a huge thank you needs to go out to all the coaches and parents for helping grow junior golf in our region.

On to some coaching news with Altus who will be offering two winter specials. His first program is aimed at the short game with a group lesson package offering over a 4 week period where Altus will work on chipping, pitching, bunker play and putting. The package is aimed at those wanting to learn in groups, so grab 2 of your friends and book a spot with Altus. Altus will also be offering 30 minute lessons during the winter months at a special price of R280 for the lesson. Both of the specials will run during the winter months so if you’d like to book a spot, please get in touch with Altus. See posters further down in the newsletter for more information and contact details.

Our Weekly Deal is aimed at those who want to get the most out of their practice sessions by knowing their club head speed and ball data. We are offering a 50% off our limited stock of the Swing Caddie 2 and this gadget is super easy to use on the range and gives golfers accurate information on what their ball is doing. It’s a great tool to help you figure out distances and also offers golfers the chance to work on club face and path.

Andy’s review sees him take a look at the latest offering from Callaway Golf. This review is definitely worth a read, so be sure to scroll down to see what Andy has to say.

That’s it for this week and I look forward to catching up with all of you soon.

Until next week,
Pete

Hey Golfers,

This week I had a game of golf with the new Callaway Chrome Soft X Golf Ball with Graphene in the make-up of the ball. All that I can say is “WOW”.

Now the first question that went through my mind when I heard about this ball was “what is graphene and how is it incorporated into the golf ball?”. Graphene is essentially an ultra thin sheet of carbon which is incorporated into one of the layers surrounding the core off the ball.

Graphene is the thinnest material in the world and it is stronger than diamond, 200 times stronger than steel and it is said that it could be the strongest material on earth. The golf ball is still made up of 4 pieces, but the new addition is definitely interesting.

Callaway have said that “this is their best ball yet”. They feel that the new addition to the ball will allow for even softer inner core and a harder outer core allowing for less spin off the longer clubs, but better feel and results off the shorter golf clubs.

I feel that this golf ball is going to make some golfers very, very happy.

Till next time, happy golfing.
