Maiya Tanaka began playing golf in San Diego over 20 years ago. As a San Diego junior golfer she quickly learned the game and began competing in tournaments and travel teams soon after starting at the First Tee. After one year of playing golf, Maiya qualified as the youngest West Coast player for the U.S. Girls Junior Championships in Maryland. Maiya was number 1 on the Boys golf team at Mira Mesa High School, and qualified for CIF her freshman year. Maiya was accepted to UCLA on Academic merit and walked-on to the National Championship winning team. She played 2006-2009 and graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and Human Complex Systems minor. She later completed her MBA online while traveling on tour. | |  |
Maiya moved back to San Diego to be closer to her family. She has excelled in the other areas of golf business from marketing to modeling and is now focused on bringing enjoyment back to the game and helping others have fun with golf. Maiya’s development from junior golf to collegiate and professional golf has really made her passionate about helping people improve their game and achieve their golf goals.

It’s Open Championship Week. Golf played with bumps and bunkers, blind shots and buried balls. It will be a week where each shot will present a very different challenge. It will be a week where the Professional (or amateur if we get a shock) who manages the vagaries of golf in a links environment, and who can manufacture different golf shots, will prevail.
Patience will be required. The ability to put bad luck, a bad lie or a surprise behind them and to focus on the next shot will be an asset. Making the right decisions that reflect the challenge presented will be an absolute must.
Many of the attributes most of us require then, for the golf we play on a regular basis, without the challenges of Carnoustie!
