Men’s 2-Day Member-Guest Tournament Recap

Bill Wood and Chris Murphy watch as Thomas Wood chips to the
9th green
2- Day Member-Guest winners Bill Storey and Chris Murphy
with the "Hardware"!

The men’s 2-Day Member-Guest tournament was played last Friday and Saturday. We had a field of 60 players in 5 flights enjoying 2 days of great competitive match play golf. Each team trying to win their respective flight and qualify for the play-off to become the Overall Champions.

Flight Winners:
#1) Brian DelGreco & Pat Albanesi
#2) Bill Wood & Thomas Wood
#3) Chris Murphy & Bill Storey
#4) Bill McAlduff & George Ravanis
#5) Dick Volpicelli & Jack LeClair
 Flight runner-ups:
#1) Jim Magliozzi & Mike Doherty
#2) Peter Donovan & Fred Gilgun
#3) Tom Busa & Bob Amoroso
#4) Brian Kenney & Peter Nagle
#5) Eric Carlson & Craig Carlson

The play-off format to determine the Overall Champions is Foursome Stroke Play (Alternate Shot). The first playoff hole serves as an elimination hole. 2 teams are eliminated and 3 teams advance to the 9th hole where sudden death begins. Advancing, we had Bill Wood & Thomas Wood, Chris Murphy & Bill Storey, and Dick Volpicelli & Jack LeClair. Bill and Thomas advancing after winning a chip-off with DelGreco and Albanesi.

On the 9th hole, the Volpicelli/ LeClair team found trouble off the tee. After a decent recovery, they found more trouble with their 3rd shot to end their chances. The Wood/ Wood and the Murphy/ Storey teams put their respective tee shots in play. But after Chris Murphy came up just short of the green with his 2nd shot, Thomas Wood pulled his 2nd shot long and left. With the ball finally coming to rest in the rough in front of the 1st tee, that shot proved to be the difference as they were unable to recover from that position. A chip solid by Bill Storey, a cautious lag putt by Chris, and the Trophy was theirs.

Congratulations to Chris Murphy and Bill Storey for winning the 2018 Men’s Member-Guest Championship.

July 20th-22nd: Men’s Club Championship & Senior Championship
The Club Championship format will be a 54 hole medal play tournament played on a single weekend. This is the 4th year we have used this format, after using a 72 hole format over 2 weekends for as long as my records go back. It still identifies the best player in the club, but the net result is that it becomes more of a sprint than a marathon. It is more difficult to overcome a single bad round.
Round 1 will be played on Friday. Players will have an option of playing their Friday round in the morning, with times starting at 7:30 am, or in the afternoon with times starting at 12:30 pm. The 2nd and third rounds will be played on Saturday and Sunday morning. Sign up is on the bulletin board. Test your game against the best players in the club.

The Senior Championship (50+ yrs.)
Will use the same format and be contested along with the Club Championship.

July 23rd-27th: Junior Clinics
For kids 6 yrs-14 yrs. Clinics run 7:30 - 9:30 am each day.
Sign up in Pro Shop or click here to download the sign-up form.

Have a great golfing week!

A mid-Iron second, over a nasty hazard, with more trouble right of the green,
tests your technique, your equipment, your fitting, and your confidence.

A Hybrid has the forgiveness,
and deeper centre of gravity this shot needs.
But some golfers struggle mentally with the
need to strike the ball a descending blow
with a Hybrid.
That’s why some manufacturers have
created Crossovers or Hybrid-Irons.
Mentally it is easier to think about,
and execute, a slightly descending
blow with this club.

If there’s an area of your approach shot game from the Fairway that punishes you too often,
there’s potential for scorecard improvement. Use the right fitted equipment with the right technique,
and you’ll be able to take the challenge on with a greater chance of success.
Spend 45 minutes with us. Let’s make a difference.

If you’ve already shown the athletic ability to get to 90 or threaten that score,
then it’s highly likely that we can help you improve your swing quickly to the point that you’re in the low 80’s.
The question is how quickly and easily?

If that’s a golf experience that appeals to you, then please don’t wait.
Start the journey to hitting even better golf shots.
