Mid-Summer Classic Tournament Summary

Round 1 of the Mid-Summer Classic produced some great scoring. In the best-ball format, Mark Bianco and Cubby McGee teamed for a 61 (-10), good for a 2 stroke lead over Tom Busa and Joe Bianco (63). Four more teams were another shot back shooting 64, and another four teams were at 65. So it was a pretty crowded scoreboard after day 1. As it usually does, the difficult and unpredictable Chapman format of day 2 would determine the 2018 Champions.

Scoring in the Chapman format is always a challenge. Any score under par is more than respectable and will move you up the leaderboard. On day 2, two teams shot unbelievable 64’s (-7) and jumped right to the top of the leaderboard. To put those scores in perspective, the next best score by any team was 67, and there was only one of those. Only 5 teams managed to break 70. When the team of John Taves and Mark DeCourcey posted their 64, their 2 day total of 128 (-14) was good for a single stroke margin of victory over two teams. Joel Taves and Matt Taves (the other team to shoot 64 on day 2) finished in a tie for 2nd with 1st round leaders Mark Bianco and Cubby McGee (61-68). Matt and Jim Harding shot 131 (64-67) to finish in solo 4th place.

Rounding out the winning teams, Steve Keegan & Dan Brennan (67-68); Tom Walsh & Charlie Toczylowski (65-70); Bill McAlduff & Rob Justice (64-71) all shot 135 to share 5th place.

Nearest to the pin winners were Chet Messer (#5), Scott Ettenhofer (#17), Steve Jepsen (#8), and Joel Taves (#14). Congratulations to all the winners.

N.E.P.G.A. Junior Tour

The NEPGA Junior Tour visited LGC this past week. Three of our junior golfers placed well in the event. Matt Harding and Max Tay shot 82 to finish in a tie for 4th. Another shot back at 83, Mike Swift finished solo 6th. Matt, Mike and Max all play on the LHS golf team and are playing a pretty full schedule on the NEPGA Junior Tour. You can follow their play this summer, along with several other LGC juniors, at nepgajt.bluegolf.com.

July 20th-22nd: Men’s Club Championship & Senior Championship

The Club Championship format will be a 54 hole medal play tournament played on a single weekend. This is the 4th year we have used this format, after using a 72 hole format over 2 weekends for as long as my records go back. It still identifies the best player in the club, but the net result is that it becomes more of a sprint than a marathon. It is more difficult to overcome a single bad round.

Round 1 will be played on Friday. Players will have an option of playing their Friday round in the morning, with times starting at 7:30 am, or in the afternoon with times starting at 12:30 pm. The 2nd and third rounds will be played on Saturday and Sunday morning. Sign up is on the bulletin board. Test your game against the best players in the club.

The Senior Championship (50+ yrs.) will use the same format and be contested along with the Club Championship.

July 23rd-27th: Junior Clinics

For kids 6 yrs-14 yrs. Clinics run 7:30 - 9:30 am each day. Sign up in Pro Shop or click here to download the sign up form.

July 25th: 1-Day Member-Guest (Another Wednesday Event!)

Open to any LGC Member. Bring up to 3 guests for a fun day of golf and competition at LGC.

July 28th-29th: Ladies Club Championship

August 4-5: A-B-C Championship

36 hole net Championship. Field is broken into 3 divisions by handicap. This is the Club Championship for the rest of us! Sign up on bulletin board.

Have a GREAT golfing week!
Kevin

To help you find the perfect partner for you on the putting green, we’ve highlighted the importance
of matching balance to your putting stroke; and then ensuring the visual appeal is right BEFORE we get to a fitting.
But now we need to look at the length of the perfect partner for you.

Two putting styles, same golfer, two Putter lengths required. The style on the left is a pendulum style,
while the one on the right has the stroke controlled by the left shoulder and elbow.

What if I told you that many, not some but many, golfers are playing with a Putter too
long to encourage the proper rotation and therefore can’t square the face at impact?

Making sure your Putter length suits your putting style, setup and size will allow you to make a
technically sound putting stroke and to repeat it time after time.
That doesn’t just lower your scorecard, it brings you the thrill of more Putts that drop.

Got some friends who have just started to learn the game?
Give them a chance to have some fun out on the golf course.

You don’t have to tee off from the tee box – a hugely daunting and intimidating experience
for someone still struggling to get a full shot airborne consistently.
It will lead to a much longer round and not a lot of joy.
Why not play 9-holes with each hole starting at the 40 yard mark?

You don’t have to wait for us to create fun golf experiences.
You can create them yourselves as a four-ball, or a small group.
Respect everyone else, but enjoy your golf.

Try this with friends, if you’re a regular or even highly competitive golfer.
Come down after work, before work, whenever you have 2 hours.
Play a 9 hole 40 yard Championship. It’s a great game.

Anyone not shooting under 36?
Then it’s time to pay a visit and improve your short game.
