As many of you may know, after 23 years of working here at Westridge Golf Centre I am moving to a new part of the country with the family, and it will not be possible to carry on working day to day at Westridge. I will be leaving on the 15th August, so please feel free to come and have a chat with me before then! I can make some recommendations on how you can take your golf forward in the coming months. My diary is still open and I am still available until the 15th of August to give any lessons or custom fits.

A Few Thank You's

I would just like to thank Mark and Joanne for the opportunity I was given at Westridge Golf Centre 23 years ago when I was a young 18 year old and had no grey hair! (I know that's hard to believe) Westridge has grown significantly in the years I've been here and I am proud to have been associated with Westridge and would like to wish all the best for the future.

The colleagues that I work with at Westridge and the colleagues I have worked with in the past, I would like to thank them and I have enjoyed working with them (most of the time)!

Finally I would like to thank the members. I know I might have been a bit.....but I have enjoyed having chats and helping trying to improve your golf.

Wishing you all the best for the future.
Simon

With four players tied for the lead after day one, Chris Royl, Joel Tarry and Dave May all shooting a gross 73, and 4 players within three shots, this was going to be one of the tightest Club Championships in recent years.

With perfect conditions, but the course playing hard and fast, with greens that were receptive and having been double cut for Sunday's play, it was sure to be a tricky day on the course.

Joel Tarry shooting a 75 finished in 3rd place and Harrison Knights shooting a 77 to finish 4th. This was not to be their day, however we all feel that it will only be a matter of time until they will be adding this trophy to their collection.

With only a couple of holes to play, Chris had a commanding lead and looked like he was favourite to take the title. But Dave will never give up and with Chris making a 8 on the 17th hole and both finishing their round in 72, there was to be a playoff to decide the winner.

As always, the three hole playoff takes place over our tricky first 3 holes and with Dave paring the first and taking a shot lead, Chris was now behind. However, that was the spark that Chris needed to get his game back on track and by paring the next and playing the third hole in a safe way to ensure he was victorious and ended up winning the Scratch Championship.

The handicap competition was rather straight forward in comparison, with Terry Stansbury leading the way with a nett 56 after day one and taking a 3 shot lead over Harrison Lake, a 4 shot lead Rob Hodgkinson, and a 5 shot lead over Ming Choi, Phil Brennan and Mark Royl. However, with Terry shooting a nett 69 on the second day and Harrison shooting a 73, the tournament was wide open and playing the best golf on the day was Mark Royl with a nett 62 to take the Handicap Trophy by 2 shots from Rob Hodgkinson.

Westridge Golf Centre would just like to thank the committee for their hard work over the Club Championship weekend.

The right Grind adds versatility to your game making it easier to play various greenside shots.
Especially on the wedges you use around the green, spend time getting the right ‘Grind’ and ‘Bounce’.

Manufacturers have introduced two main ‘Grinds’ to make greenside shots easier:

The right grind on a Wedge that supports the way you’re likely to use that Wedge, will make shot-making easier.
You might use different Wedges in different ways, so it’s not one Grind fits all. Next time you’re looking at Wedges,
make sure you get fitted.

Got some friends who have just started to learn the game?
Give them a chance to have some fun out on the golf course.

You don’t have to tee off from the tee box – a hugely daunting and intimidating experience
for someone still struggling to get a full shot airborne consistently.
It will lead to a much longer round and not a lot of joy.
Why not play 9-holes with each hole starting at the 40 yard mark?

You don’t have to wait for us to create fun golf experiences.
You can create them yourselves as a four-ball, or a small group.
Respect everyone else, but enjoy your golf.

Try this with friends, if you’re a regular or even highly competitive golfer.
Come down after work, before work, whenever you have 2 hours.
Play a 9 hole 40 yard Championship. It’s a great game.

Anyone not shooting under 36?
Then it’s time to pay a visit and improve your short game.
