As we look forward to another weekend, I am very happy to bring you some exciting news – Pinnacle Point has been chosen as the host venue for the Final of the Vodacom Origins of Golf series from 29th October to 3rd November. It is another massive feather in the cap for the Estate, following hot on the heels of having been awarded the Best Golf Course in South Africa for the past 2 years, and speaks volumes for the continued good work of everyone concerned with the Estate. We are very proud and honoured to be able to host such an event and look forward to preparing the golf course ahead of the new season.

During the winter months, we are able to focus on introducing new golfers to the great game. Last week, we welcomed 25 ladies to our club as our PGA Professional Staff hosted a clinic on the driving range and arranged a FUN 9-hole Par 3 event to introduce the ladies to the golf course. After a strenuous morning workout, the ladies were able to relax in our comfortable restaurant with Tea and Scones. The concept was well received and we will look to grow this initiative over the coming months.

In addition to the many ‘Cool Season’ promotions we are currently running, we have also decided to allow ALL juniors to play for FREE during June, July and August. Any junior accompanied by a paying adult qualifies for the promotion.

Our popular Par 3 Challenge continues and through the sponsorship of Beans 4 Africa, we have been able to start a Winter Mini-Series. The Series will be played as part of our Wacky Weekend and will incorporate 3 events in June, July and August. Individual and Alliance prizes are up for grabs, with special prizes to play for at the Final. Competitors will have to play in each of the 3 events to qualify for the overall prizes. We will also use the Mini Series as our qualifying rounds for the Par 3 Championship. Full details of this to follow.

Some other exiting events coming up includes the 2nd Round of the Majors Series – the US Open. The event has been promoted for the past few weeks and entries close this evening. Please join us for another FUN competition. Today is also your last chance to enter the Pairs Winter Knock-Out.

If you would like the opportunity to join one of South Africa’s most prestigious golf clubs, our new membership year starts from the 1st July. We have a variety of membership options available and we are also giving away a FREE membership to one lucky winner. Please follow the link at the top of the newsletter to enter the competition.

Here is to another GREAT weekend.

The Business League

The June edition of Business League were once again met with extreme weather conditions testing making for eventful moments at The Pinnacle Point Golf Club. It is said that if the conditions are tough you stand a better chance at winning as half the field will give up mentally, but this was certainly not the case. The teams finishing 1st and 2nd won with quite some ease, but the rest of the field were all within reach of the 3rd and 4th place making for yet another great Business League event. Thanks again to all the sponsors doing their part to make this event a success: SFm, PangCraft, Rauch Gertenbach, Turfworx and Louis 57 Wines.

Dawie Louw is the newly appointed fines master who hands out fines at the prizegiving ceremony for things like: failing to get out of a bunker, 4 putting and the team with the most blackouts.

Here is Dawie in action:

Women’s Golf Day

Women’s Golf Day is a one day event celebrating girls and women around the world playing golf and learning the skills that last a lifetime

This past Tuesday Pinnacle Point joined alongside the International Women’s Golf Day and hosted both playing and non-playing beginner golfers for a morning filled with golfing fun!

We kicked the day off with a clinic at the Pinnacle Driving Range with Head Teaching Professional Quintin Byleveldt who taught the basics, which included the basic setup and swing, chipping and putting. After the introductory lesson the ladies moved down to play a 2 Ball Scramble competition with teams consisting of a regular golfer and a beginner.

Marina Juta and Vanesia Smith walked away with the prizes sponsored by La Vita Spa. The ladies were then treated to a Ladies Tee at The Pinnacle Restaurant to conclude a fun golf day spent at our amazing facilities.

On Saturday we’ll have a deck set up outside the Lounge Bar from where there will be nearest to the pin challenge. Only R50 for 5 balls with the winner walking away with a Callaway wedge of his or her choice. The shootout will be open all day to everyone with contestants also qualifying for a 25% discount on selected items in The Pinnacle Pro Shop.

Course designers are clearly
in league with golf ball manufacturers.

How many golf courses have a
Par 3, about 5 Iron distance,
with water on the right?

They know that an Iron over 38“
long and less than 28° of loft
has a good chance of going right.

Ten years ago, we told you that your
4 Iron loft had strengthened to become
the same loft as the previous year’s 3 Iron.
Your 5 Iron will today will have the same
loft as that 3 Iron.
Without question, most golfers ought to be
replacing their 5 Iron with a Hybrid.
They should be investing in improving
their technique. And smiling as they walk
up to their ball on the green. It makes it easier
to enjoy the geese! It also means you’re
buying less golf balls.

Bring your problem distance to us. Let us spend time whether improving your technique with an existing club,
or filling the gap with a better solution. Come and spend 45 minutes with us,
and let’s see how best to fill that gap.

We want more golfers to have a great experience out on the golf course.

To do that, you don’t have to take on the same challenge as
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Louis Oosthuizen, Shangsan Feng or Lexi Thompson.
In fact, you already don’t play the same length golf course they do.

So, let’s play more formats that make it more enjoyable for more golfers.

PGA Junior League is a format that combines a competitive element with a game that stays ‘in play’ longer
(2v2 over 3x3 holes), with the playability benefits of a Scramble format.

There are 3 ‘flags’ to be won. If you’re playing 18, why not play 2v2 better ball scramble, over 3x6 holes?

And actually, why not find time to
play nine in this format (3x3 holes),
 before or after your day?

Or nine on a Sunday afternoon
with the family?

You can still have friendly competition, but it’s likely that this is a much more social format:
you come together on the tee; for the 2nd shot; and on the green. That’s more fun together.

Try it. Try and think of different ways to play the game, to allow the less skilled the opportunity to
get much more enjoyment from the experience. Or for you to change it up and enjoy yourself more.

And if you need help finding more fairways on your own, then
