PGA Professionals are the potential ‘leaders of our industry’. That offers them so much potential, but they need to embrace a role with responsibility, and the development of a skill set that promises greatness.

Last week I talked about how you should use communication to establish yourself as an ‘expert guide’ a ‘servant leader’ to the golfer.

Those two terms are not interchangeable. To be an expert-guide to a golfer is a role.

One that promises the coach golfers who will be more committed to long-term coaching programs, and for the retailer, there are more loyal relationships with increased retail revenues per customer.

Golf Directors will see more rounds, more golf spend, more time, and money spent at the club while General Managers gain more golfers, happier golfers, more vibrant communities, and greater revenues.

We see it as an expert-guide leads golfers on journeys. The expert-guide has the technical competence and a map.

Servant leadership is an approach to how to lead the golfer. It’s a style of leadership that requires the development of some very human skills. A skilled servant leader will inspire great things amongst many golfers, and keep them positively committed to their journey.

A better future can be created
So many of the ideas that have appeared in the #beaconofhope pages are about humanity and doing a better job of engaging golfers. Why must we try and go BACK? You’ve already proved that you can do great things.
