PGA Professionals are the potential ‘leaders of our industry’. That offers them so much potential, but they need to embrace a role with responsibility, and the development of a skill set that promises greatness.

Creating your better future
I listed “listening” as one of the human skills that you should work on. Don’t jump to the conclusion that I just mean becoming a good active, or responsive listener. If you need to influence, persuade, or inspire, someone to take a “journey” with you, there is much more to listening.

Listening wasn’t a lesson available at my school!
Here is an article and a podcast that might help you.

An HBR article that highlights aspects beyond active listening

Lots of basics, but also some great insights on this podcast.

Another important journey

I saw another “after COVID, book your lesson at a great discount” offer again
this morning.

Why is so much of marketing by coaches dedicated to selling the “what” (the lesson or accompanied play)? You have so many amazing journeys to take golfers on. Let’s talk about your journeys. The PGA of America haS done great work using the “American Development Model”. They provide coaches with a great journey they can talk to parents about.

My coffee question for you today is how much more committed will a parent and their child be to your junior coaching program, if you can start by describing the journey you take children on? How much more valuable is their time with you if they’re on a journey that delivers so much?
