Our game appears to be based on a status pyramid that we maybe ought to rethink.

Over the past several weeks I’ve talked about innovating with a calendar of events and activities that create playing value for golfers who are less skilled or experienced or just don’t get enough game to keep their
game together.

I have suggested you turn the traditional status pyramid on its head and that it becomes a funnel.

We need legitimate, regular events that allow these golfers to get value out on the golf course, to nurture their development.

You can see an almost identical concept at play with the LTADM model and PGA Jr League. It’s a funnel that will create a larger pool of elite golfers, but along the way the combination of age-relevant development along with a fun, social, fully-legitimized event, nurtures and develops a much larger pool of golfers.

Change “age appropriate” for “skill appropriate” and these are exactly the same concepts. And if you want to chat through just how relevant the PGA Jr League format is to your adult learners and less experienced, and even families, please speak to Brian Jacobs, at Mill Creek Golf Club in New York.
