NENY PGA Section New Hires
Sports Marketing & Communications Intern - 2021
We’re thrilled to share the news that the section has hired a Sports Marketing & Communications Intern for the 2021 summer season. Josh DeMattos is from Queensbury, NY, and you will likely see him at NENY PGA Section professional, junior, and foundation-related events, so be sure to welcome him!
Josh is currently a rising Junior at Emerson College in Boston, studying Sports Communication with a minor in Public Relations and Graphic Design. Prior to attending Emerson College, Josh graduated from Queensbury High School in 2020 and was privileged to be dually enrolled at SUNY Adirondack, where he studied New Media Arts and Design for two years.
Josh hopes to gain experience in sports communication, public relations, social media strategies, and design. He is delighted to be learning more about the business aspect of sports and will focus on streamlining, reporting, and designing for the Northeastern NY Section PGA. In his spare time, Josh enjoys watching and participating in many different sports. He is a former Defensemen for the Clifton Park Dynamo, USPHL Hockey Team, and is currently a defenseman for the Emerson Lions Lacrosse Team.
After college, Josh plans on working for a sports franchise where he can continue to show his love of sports. He is extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to grow his skills this summer during his internship, and we’re equally thrilled to have him.

You should have received a Workday email asking you to update any financial information (bank account for direct deposit) if that has changed previously for you.

Congratulations - US Open Qualifier Advancement
Congrats to Scott Berliner, PGA Assistant Professional at Saratoga Spa GC, who is advancing from the US Open Qualifier hosted by Mohawk GC this week into the next stage of sectional qualifying.
Members On The Move
Welcome to Robert Shuey, PGA, who has accepted the Head Professional position at the Onteora Club in Tannersville, NY. Robert comes from the South Florida PGA Section, where he is a Life Member Active classification.
PGA Reach NENY Foundation Established & Giving Back Locally
Through the Tom DeBerry, PGA Memorial Golf Fundraiser
Amsterdam Mayor Mike Cinquanti gratefully accepted the donation of five sets of junior golf clubs from Heidi DeBerry this afternoon at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course. Mrs. DeBerry is the widow of Amsterdam native and longtime area Golf Pro Tom DeBerry, who passed away in 2018 from pancreatic cancer. The Clubs were purchased with proceeds from the Tom DeBerry Memorial Golf Tournament in partnership with the PGA REACH Northeastern New York Foundation as part of REACH’s mission to positively impact lives through golf.

Does Your Facility Have A Local Amateur Competition?
The NENY PGA Section is seeking local Amateur Golf Tournament information (name, facility, date, registration site), etc., in the efforts to help the competitive amateur players in the area to review a comprehensive tournament schedule.
Please email your tournament at a minimum with dates and your facility/individual contact info. We will collate into one schedule listing for the ease of the local players to one centralized place on our website so they can plan their season.
