The Club

We have made a few changes in the golf department, as rounds are still increasing, and with golf days coming back, the team needs some extra hands. We would, therefore, like to welcome three new members to the team. You might recognise Edward and Jojo, who have moved from the Randpark Caddie Society into the Golf Department team to take up the role of starters/marshals. They have been part of the Club for many years, have a good understanding of the game, and they know many of the members.

It was important to get our starters back into position on each tee box, and to ensure that marshals go out with the start of the field; the starters will then back up the marshals, once they are done with starting. This will ensure that we have two marshals per course, which should make a big difference to the overall golf experience.

We would appreciate your support in welcoming them to the team.

We have received the new HNA cards. Members must please collect their cards from Felicia or Nadja at the Club, and return their old/temporary card. After the 18th of October, old cards will be deactivated.

Royal Air Force Officers’ Club - Fly Past

The Royal Air Force Officers’ Club will commemorate the “Battle of Britain” on Friday, the 17th of September with a fly past from 12h45 to 13h00.

The formation will be:
1. A diamond 4 to say hello – arrival over the length of Firethorn towards the clubhouse – with smoke on as they approach the clubhouse.
2. Missing Man echelon formation, which remembers and honours those that did not come home – the missing man has smoke on as he leaves the formation in a vertical climb.
3. A diamond 4 farewell – from right to left as you look north from the clubhouse.

It’s been a very busy week on the courses. We’ve already hosted three golf days this week, and have the Captain’s Golf Day and Dinner coming up tomorrow. It is great to have golf days back, and there is nothing more satisfying than to see members and guests enjoying our facilities. We would like to thank everybody for the phenomenal support of the Captain’s Golf Day. Next week will be a little bit quieter, as we only have one golf day on Tuesday on Firethorn.

Rule of the Week

When in doubt about any ruling, players should also do what is fair, but never ignore or break any rule of golf whilst making a decision. If a Rules official is not present or you could not manage to contact one in time, players must in a reasonable time decide on the ruling, what to do, and play on. In Strokeplay, we always recommend that the player plays two balls and get the ruling after the round at the scoring office. Always ensure you finalise the ruling and outcome before submitting your scorecard. Submitting the incorrect scorecard can lead to disqualification. Did you know that you can download the R&A app on your smart phone? The app is really simple to use, and the additional search option makes it that much easier to look up a rule when out on the golf course. You can find the app on your Android or Apple Play Store under Rules of Golf 2019.

We are making good progress with the tee levelling projects, despite an incredibly busy week of corporate days. The 9th tee on Firethorn, the 6th ladies, and 13th back tee on Bushwillow have been completed, and now need a few weeks to grow in and recover.

We are also nearing the end of the bunker sand top-ups, and this should also be completed next week.
