Dear Member,

The Club

This year is flying by, but we have lots of exciting news coming soon. In the meantime, don’t forget to book your golf year-end dates with the events team, or even your company year-end. We are filling up quickly, and look forward to hosting our members for a game of golf to close out the year with your group of regular players. Whether it is a fourball or a big group, chat to us, we will do something special for you.

Did you know there’s a 12 500 to 1 chance a typical golfer will make a hole-in-one. That’s because the width of the hole is so small. Even professional golfers can go their whole career without making a hole-in-one!

Congratulations to Randpark members who have done extremely well with no less than 24 holes-in-one this year!

Happy golfing,
Francois

We always encourage communication between our members and the Club. If you have any comments or questions, please don’t hesitate to either contact our CEO, Francois Swart at ceo@randpark.co.za or our Club Captain, Derek McGowan at captainslog@randpark.co.za.

We can confirm that the switch over to the new lightning system has been completed. We did experience a few small hick-ups, but it was attended to, and the system is functioning to its full potential. We had a few members asking again what the correct procedure is when the siren does go off, and what happens when the siren goes off during a competition. It is very difficult to determine how long the delay will be, and players must please wait for the all-clear (two short blasts) siren, before resuming play.

In the event that the siren goes off during a competition day, the competition is immediately suspended. The Manager or Captain on the day will analyse the lightning during the time, and we will inform players on the course if the competition will be called off or resume after the lightning delay. In the event that players choose to continue to play during suspended play, they will be disqualified from the competition. Players are advised to mark their ball and return to the clubhouse as soon as possible. Below is the lightning policy, as per the Club’s bye-laws:

Procedure in the event of lightning

1. Play is immediately suspended when the lightning siren sounds (one long sound set at 15km). Players are advised to return to the clubhouse immediately. All clear is two short blasts on the siren (done automatically).
2. If the Saturday AM or Sunday AM competitions are cancelled, and play is weather delayed enough that it will prevent the PM players from teeing off on time, AM players will not be allowed to proceed with their round. If play resumes, the Club reserves the right to cancel the competition, if there is not enough light for all players to complete their rounds.
3. If a Club competition is cancelled, a rain check will be issued and will appear on the member’s profile. This may be redeemed at the next Club competition. No cash refunds will be given. If all players complete nine holes, and the lightning siren sounds, the competition will be held over nine holes. Prizes will be divided equally between the two nines.
4. Green fees will not be refunded, unless players have paid, have played less than three holes, and a decision has been made by the manager on duty that the conditions would not allow play to continue at a later stage.

In the event that the delay causes the competition to be cancelled, players can resume their round under the following conditions:
Play must resume on the hole you marked your ball.
Your position in the field cannot change. You cannot “jump” past other fourballs.
Morning field players: If you can’t turn before 11h00, you will not be able to play your second 9 holes, and will only be allowed to play 9 holes, as per point 2 in the procedure in event of lightning.
Players may not be more than four players when play continues.
In the event of heavy rain during the delay, players are advised to treat all puddles of water on the course (except penalty areas) as GUR, and to avoid driving over the wet areas on the courses if you are on a golf cart.

Procedure in the event of lightning on the Driving Range

In the event that the lightning siren goes off – players are requested to stop hitting balls and seek shelter in the Range Café or in the clubhouse.

No balls will be sold during this time. Players may only resume when the all-clear siren goes off – two short blasts. The Driving Range is not lightning proof.

Guests of players on the course

We have seen over the last couple of months guests walking with golfers during their round. It’s great to see them enjoying the outdoors and the beautiful courses, especially at this time of the year. We would like to remind our members that you are responsible for your guest when they are visiting the Club. We must ensure that the correct dress code is followed at all times; our starters and marshals will monitor the dress code, and we kindly request that all non-golfers dress accordingly.
Their safety whilst on the course will be your responsibility as member, the Club cannot be liable for any injuries, damages or accidents that might occur on the courses. Here are a few helpful tips for all non-golfers walking with golfers during play:
Do not wander off between holes. Stay with your player.
Keep up with their pace – do not fall behind.
Always be careful of other golfers within the group.
If your guest wishes to return to the clubhouse during play, they must avoid walking across fairways, and in line where other golfers are playing. Make use of the service roads on the courses, and if not possible keep clear of all fairways when heading back to the clubhouse.
If you hear the word “FORE” cover your head and kneel down.

We received very welcome early rains over the weekend, with a total of 44mm falling from Thursday to Sunday. The difference this has made to the courses is very visible. We have started mowing the rough for the first time this season, and fairway and tee mowing is up to twice a week.

We have also hired a stump grinder to get rid of the many unsightly tree stumps on the courses. It will be busy for four days from Wednesday this week to Monday. Although the machine is generally working in the rough areas, it does make a fair amount of noise and saw dust. We will try and keep its impact on golf as low as possible, but please be understanding with the team while they do their work.
