Are we under achieving, if we measure the number of golfers who invest in coaching?

Some coaches tell me that their members “don’t want lessons”. They believe the market potential for coaching at their club with 500 members is less than $ 25,000.

It’s a tough conversation from there, because that’s their lived experience. They promoted their service, but few have taken it up. It seems like a personal judgment made by the community. That can be soul destroying.

In that scenario, trying to have them think that 500 members is a market opportunity of at least $ 600,000, seems so far fetched and uninformed.

Presenting that figure can seem an awful lot like an indictment of their ability as a coach. But it isn’t. It’s an indictment of their ability as a marketer.

Whether you think it's marketing skill or just the ability to ‘win friends and influence them’, it’s a skill that every coach needs. It’s a business process that requires the investment of time.

Marketing is a life-long journey of learning, that’s just as important as the technical ability to coach is a life-long journey of professional development.

Put marketing and coaching skill together and you can start thinking about a group of 500 golfers offering you a $ 600,000 potential market size.
