Why Andy Parker Turned to The Geek for Explosive Distance
I had a fantastic Driver fitting session with our very own Andy Parker yesterday down at the Lytham Golf Academy. Andy had been looking to upgrade his Driver, which was a little outdated, but was unsure as to what to try so he called in The Geek. Anybody who has played with Andy will know that he hits a very, very good ball - natural draw and long!

There wasn’t a lot wrong with his 9.5 stiff in terms of the numbers it was producing, but there were fluctuation with regards to spin rates, i.e. 2104 up to 3579, meaning inconsistent distances! I put the first Driver in his hands – a TaylorMade R1 TP 10.5 degree closed – and BOOM! Andy’s distance jumped by 21 yards, his carry up from 264 to 285 and his total distance was up from 289 to 307! It was all because we got his spin rate to under 2500 on a regular basis. The R1 is an extremely low-spin head and I’ll admit that the graphics aren’t for everyone, but underneath the hood, shall we say, there are outrageous performance benefits.

This again outlines the importance of custom fitting – click here to book your session today and we’ll find the club that helps you get the most out of your game.

We Are Weather-Proof

Well we lost another weekend due to the extreme weather, and this has certainly felt like the longest winter ever. Since last August we have experienced torrential rain, floods, gale force winds, freezing conditions and snow. We haven't seen many of the familiar faces for months, and golfers are getting out of the habit.

These extreme conditions are starting to become the norm, and this looks to be the pattern for years to come, but don't let it affect your golf. We are still able to provide a superb learning environment in our state of the art Golf Studio, with our GC2 launch monitor and simulator software, which allows us to run nearest the pin, long drive and many more competitions.

If you fancy playing a few holes without braving the cold, we also have 13 golf courses available to play, including Turnberry, Doral and The Belfry.

The Golf Studio is also the perfect environment for custom fitting, and we are now able to custom fit Nike, PING, TaylorMade, Titleist and Cobra equipment. We have the largest range of custom fitting equipment in the area, and are helping many golfers find the clubs to suit their game. Our full set demo Irons are already proving very popular, with golfers now able to take a full set of the latest clubs onto the course.

If you would like to spend some time with me in the Studio to find a few extra yards, try the latest equipment, or improve your game in the warm and comfortable surroundings, then call the Pro Shop or email me here.

Building Your Swing Strength
Generally speaking, golf is a slow-pace sport very different from fast-movement activities such as basketball, tennis, rugby, etc. The exception to this rule is the explosive action of the golf swing, which places significant stress on shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints, and produces high torque forces on the lower back and hip structures.

Consequently, if you are not strong and fit in these parts, you could experience game-limiting injuries in these and other areas of the body. Click here to read more...

If you would like a 'Strength Specific Programme for Golf' it would be my pleasure to help! Please click here to contact us about your programme today.

Complete Equipment Solution: Metalwoods
How far can you go?
My Complete Equipment Solution is designed to revive your Metalwood game as easily as 1, 2, 3. I'd like to help you find the right Metalwoods for your game, then I'll set them up perfectly for you. The last step is an introductory lesson to get you on the path to making the best of your investment.

How do we fit your Driver?
Considering adjustability settings, models and shaft options, some of the Drivers available today give us several hundred fittings to choose from. Here are some of the key criteria to finding the right one for you.

Cleveland Classic XL Custom
Consider the handsome Cleveland Classic XL Custom Driver as a great adjustable option. The largest, deepest Driver face in golf means the largest effective hitting area for boosted confidence on the tee. Enhanced variable face thickness technology creates higher fast ball speed on off-center hits, too.

We have added 10, 20, 30, and even 40+ yards to many golfers' Metalwood shots by setting them up to succeed. I urge you to take the first step to better golf and more enjoyment.

Like I said, easy as 1, 2, 3: the right club, a perfect setup and the best swing you can achieve. Better golf awaits...

Golf balls: Ultimate all-rounders
Standing on the tee box, most club golfers would like a low-spinning golf ball with a high compression rating. Hitting mid-Irons, he might prefer something with a little more give. When the short Irons and Putter come out, he would ask for a high-spin option with a soft cover.

From our Metalwoods and longer Irons, sidespin is the enemy. Most of us are fairly consistent at achieving a straight line - initially. But it's the sidespin that kicks in and causes hook and slice. Just like topspin is employed by tennis players to 'suck' their powerfully hit groundstokes back down to ground before sailing over the base line, sidespin pulls an otherwise decent Drive into the rough. A harder ball, less receptive to spin means less of that banana-shaped movement and more distance.

Closing in on the green, the benefits of softness and spin are apparent. While only expert players use spin to shape the ball to their desires, even regular golfers benefit from the sharp 'brakes' backspin puts on a ball landing on the green. All golfers prefer the softness and feel that comes from the sort of malleable cover that takes spin.

The beauty of modern golf balls means a good approximation of this perfect scenario can now be achieved with just one ball. Put simply, manufacturers have made great strides in adding distance to a ball that retains its softness, receptiveness to spin and, therefore, control on shorter shots. The secret lies in the layers.

The power-packed core is only truly engaged by the potent hit of a Metalwood or long Iron. That offers the power we love off the tee. Intermediate layers come into their own when they meet with mid-Irons. Then, when the shorter sticks come out near the green, the 'muscle' of the core is more of a passenger, with the soft cover performing the vital role. Chopping strikes from short Irons achieve plenty of grip on the soft cover, meaning more spin and more control.
Do these sound like the sort of benefits you would like from you ball? Contact me and I'll gladly help you find the right one to get the best from your game.
