Many years ago, Gary Player missed a 6-foot putt and a few people in the crowd cheered. He looked up and said; “I guess every shot pleases somebody.”

Well that’s how we feel with two more public holidays on the horizon, on Friday (Freedom Day) and then on Tuesday (Worker’s Day), which will make for a really extended long weekend.

We have a few tee off times available every day this week, but if you want to play over the long weekend, make sure you book early, as there are limited times available.

If you can get out of the office, why not join us for Whacky Wednesday on the 25th April. The format is 4-Ball Alliance with Scramble Drive and the winning team will get a two-night stay with two rounds of golf at Highland Gate. The R350 entry fee gets you 18-holes of golf, a cart sharing, a pizza for the four-ball and a craft draft beer per player after the round. (Members with pre-paid rounds pay R200)

Call (012) 654-2111 or Click Here to book online.

Our Junior Golf Section is thriving...
Elsabe Hefer and Justin Godfrey have started a Capping System for their Beginner Juniors so that they get a different colour cap (as you do in karate) as they progress through the steps of becoming more proficient in the game. They held their first capping ceremony on the weekend with seven juniors attaining their White Caps and swearing their allegiance to the game of golf. Well-done!

Katlego Good won the first term Junior Order of Merit. He is pictured above (bottom right picture) with Justin and Stefan Rudman, who won the competition on 15th April with 38pts.

Diarise the dates for Junior Club Champs – 25th to 28th June – as we want to make it the best one ever! We’ll have A-; B-; C-; Girls and Bunnies Divisions available so there is room for everyone and every level. A strokeplay competition will take place on 25th & 26th June & that will be followed by matchplay on 27th & 28th. Call Elsabe for details and bookings on

Let us help you play better golf

This week Elsabe gives you great advice on having to play a flop-shot if you end up on the right of the 6th green.  (click on image to watch)

From the Golf Course…
It’s that time of year already. We will be changing over to Winter Tee Times from Tues, 1st May - 06h45–8h13 and 10h45-12h45.

Over the next few weeks you will see a lot of sodding taking place at the 4th and other holes to repair damage from the floods. We have also purchased new tee markers, bins, pins and roping for the cart paths because we lost some in the flooding.

Clarens Trip…
Eight Zwartkop members had a wonderful weekend experiencing the golf and hospitality that Clarnes has to offer.

The Dale Hayes Challenge saw two Zwartkop four-balls pitt their skills against Clarens and other clubs in the Eastern Free State. Unfortunately it was Bethlehem that got to lift the trophy. We would like to improve our chance of winning by taking at least four four-balls to the 2019 event!

It’s a wonderful place to visit (for golfers and non-golfers alike) with loads of art galleries, shops and restaurants and a great golf course that will knock your socks off. If you are interested in joining us next year get in touch with us on golfshop@zwartkopcc.co.za. Dale is looking for a new partner – he said it was hard to carry Mike Streak for 18-holes!

Assupol Masters Grand Slam Trophy

Zaheer Alli won the Masters Grand Slam Trophy. He was drawn to be paired with John Rahm whose Individual Stableford score of 40 points in the second round of the Masters was added to Zaheer’s 43 points from Saturday. That gave him a winning score of 83 points. Well-done Zaheer.

 Biltong Shoppe
We are thrilled to tell you that the Biltong Shoppe are putting up a brand new prize every Saturday for the player that has the best score over all five par 3’s. You will go home with a R500 voucher for Biltong!

I have had an overwhelming request of late from golfers to be custom fitted. There are many reasons for this but the main reason is that not one of us have the same swing or are built the same. Yet all club manufacturers make standard equipment.

If you are serious about your golf and would like to improve please click here and let’s get you playing with the correct equipment.

Product of the Week
It’s causing a stir in America.
It’s called simply “Tiger Woods” and after conducting 250 interviews the two authors take us behind the scenes of the life of the Worlds most famous sportsman.

It’s a must read.

We have only 4 copies @ R399 each. Don’t miss out.

The Fairway Wood is probably
as difficult a club to hit as
any in the bag.

It’s hugely useful if you
can hit it consistently,
but almost a waste of space in
the bag if you can’t.

So improvements in face technology to
increase forgiveness across
the face are welcome.

The fitting and setup of this
club is critically important.
Everything you can do to
make sure the ball launches
easily and accurately,
should be done. That includes
investing time to find the shaft that translates difficult into easy.

An assessment and fitting is of paramount importance.

Make sure the Fairway Woods and Hybrids in your bag are as easy to use as possible, and integrated
so that you have no big distance gaps or overlap from the clubs at the top of your bag.

Whether we’re coaching them, or you’re out with your child on the course or Range, never forget the need for FUNdamentals.

Yes, we want to teach the FUNdamentals of balance,
movement and coordination.

Yes, we want to make sure they
grasp the FUNdamentals of
hitting a golf ball.

Sure, we want them to
have the FUNdamentals of
how to play the game.

But, we want it to be
always FUN.

But actually, it shouldn’t be different for anyone coming to learn the game. There are four steps,
and each child, or golfer, can decide where is far enough for them.

Whether it’s introducing golf to your child, helping them master the fundamentals,
or taking them to new levels of expertize, we want to help. Come and talk to us about the best
way to introduce golf to your child or how to develop their ability.
