It seems summer has made a brief comeback with some beautiful warm, balmy days this week, ahead of what is hopefully a nice wet cold front early next week.

Gary Player/Ronan Keating Golf Day
Let’s start with the Gary Player/Ronan Keating Golf Day which is now barely a week away.

We held the draw for the 6 places plus 1 reserve on Friday evening at the R10K draw. The winners were as follows:

 • Ashley Sisson
• Trevor Norris-Jones
• Jacqui Mcharg
• Martin Goodwin
• Joanna Russell
• Pam van Rhyn
• Terry Brookes (reserve)

Congratulations to you all. It should be a fabulous day.

Please note that due to the Gary Player/Ronan Keating Golf Day next Saturday, there will be no bookings done at the club this Friday 18th May.

Classic-American Scramble
Bookings for the Friday Classic-American Scramble on Friday 1st June will open this Friday 18th May. Please call the office from 8am or send Emelia an e-mail to book your place. Cost for members is R110 and visitors R310. This includes golf, fantastic prizes and snacks afterwards, followed by members R10K draw and a party!

Saturday Members
The staff are hard at work finding games for our Saturday members all over the Peninsula. Some clubs can only assist us from this weekend as their members have first option on tee times. Chat to Emelia or Nic and they will do their utmost to assist everyone in finding a game by this coming Monday.

What's coming up?

We welcome False Bay Rugby Club to Westlake this Thursday and the Springfield Golf Day on Friday. The Whisky Draw will be upstairs on Friday as usual.

The Sanlam Cancer Challenge
Saturday sees the return of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge. This is an all-day men’s event, so morning and afternoon fields will be in one competition. There are 3 divisions, namely A (0-9), B (10 – 18) and C (19 -30). If your handicap is above 30, you will need to play off a 30 on Saturday to compete. Entrance fee is R75 and there is no ball pool or 2 Club on the day.

A reminder that the Coronation Bowl is taking place this Sunday. It promises to be a memorable day, so book your place if you haven’t already done so, as there are some spaces available. It is a mixed competition.

This Monday is the next Festival Event in our year-long festivities. It is the Senior Classic. Anyone over the age of 55 is eligible to play and there are a few spots still open. Book today and come and enjoy a great day out with food to all entrants after the game.

Shower Update

The latest on the showers is that everything is installed and working. The only hiccup we have had is finding Calcite to put into the filters. There has literally been none available in the country, but this is arriving today, so the showers should be working again by the time you read this. Please remember to bring your own towels along.

 Membership
Incredibly, preparation for the new financial year is getting underway again. If you have any enquiries pertaining to your membership for the new financial year, please direct these to Emelia at membership@westlakegolfclub.co.za so that she can assist you before the rush in August.

Father and Sons Trophy
A reminder that the Father and Sons Trophy is happening on the 24th June. This is open to fathers/mothers and daughters or even grandchildren too. While this may not have been the original format, in this day and age we would like to embrace all the kids and grandkids out there and allow them to play. This worked very well last year, so enter and enjoy the day with us!

League
Our Masters side won their last game against Atlantic Beach 4 – 0 and in doing so they finished in a credible 3rd place and only missed out on a semi-final by one point. Well done gentlemen.

The Toyota Yaris Raffle
With regard to the Festival which is a year-long event in 2018, the Toyota Yaris Raffle is going along well. Obviously the more tickets we sell, the more we can do in upgrading the club and making improvements for everyone to enjoy. If every member just sells 1 book of 5 tickets, the club will make a profit in the region of half a Million Rand!

Please get your book of tickets from the office or a manager on duty and sell the tickets and get the money in. The quicker we sell these tickets, the sooner we can utilise the funds for fantastic improvements! The draw takes place at the Big Bash on the 24th November, but there is nothing stopping us selling out in the meantime…

Struggling with your short game? Fed up with your putter? You don't want to miss this...
