The Race to Oubaai

Oubaai hosted the South Cape Men’s Closed Championship on Saturday and Sunday to mark the start of the Race to Oubaai 2018/19 on 15 July. Congratulations to Ivan Williams who won the tournament with a score of -9 and Hans-Jurie Human on second place with -6. Congratulations also to Liam Ross who managed a hole-in-one on the third hole that played 176m on the day.

Forty-seven players fiercely competed for two days to establish the final Order of Merit for the season and to select the South Cape IPT teams. Oubaai’s Caylum Boon and Hans-Jurie Human were selected to play in the South Cape Premier team. Aidan Boon is reserve for the team.

Our own Rob Thöle was awarded the South Cape Golf Union Appreciation Award for contributions to the players and the SCGU. Congratulations, Rob! Thank you for putting Oubaai first.

Oubaai Knockouts 2018

Don’t forget to email your entry to Thinus bly clicking on the icon below, or enter at the Oubaai Proshop. Entries are open for this year’s Oubaai Knockouts in the categories: Men’s Singles, Ladies’ Singles, Men’s Betterball, Ladies’ Betterball, Mixed Betterball. All entries close on 30 June.

In the past, this competition dragged on for so long that players lost interest. We would like to complete the competition in good time this year, so we set out a few conditions. The first round must be completed by the end of July. Each round will have a time of one month to be completed. If you cannot commit to the deadlines, please do not enter.

If the two teams can’t find a suitable date in the due month, the convener will then determine a Wednesday or Saturday for the match to be played. If one team can’t play, the other team will go through to the next round. If neither team can make that date, the convener will toss a coin to determine the winner of the round. Until next week,

Rob

We are very happy to share with you that the tournament on Saturday and Sunday was a great success. The greens rolled well. Apart from the windy and cold weather, we received wonderful reviews from all the players.

We are continuing with ongoing course maintenance and working our way through all the bunkers, sifting and levelling. We’re also cutting brush in some parts.

The team started repairing pitch marks on the greens. There seems to be a huge amount of unrepaired pitch marks. We would like to encourage golfers to repair as they play to limit damage to the turf.

We are also attending to the new dam on the 8th to ascertain where it leaks and how we can repair it.

Hope to see you on the golf course,

Igor

A mid-Iron second, over a nasty hazard, with more trouble right of the green,
tests your technique, your equipment, your fitting, and your confidence.

A Hybrid has the forgiveness,
and deeper centre of gravity this shot needs.
But some golfers struggle mentally with the
need to strike the ball a descending blow
with a Hybrid.
That’s why some manufacturers have
created Crossovers or Hybrid-Irons.
Mentally it is easier to think about,
and execute, a slightly descending
blow with this club.

If there’s an area of your approach shot game from the Fairway that punishes you too often,
there’s potential for scorecard improvement. Use the right fitted equipment with the right technique,
and you’ll be able to take the challenge on with a greater chance of success.
Spend 45 minutes with us. Let’s make a difference.

Got some friends who have just started to learn the game?
Give them a chance to have some fun out on the golf course.

You don’t have to tee off from the tee box – a hugely daunting and intimidating experience
for someone still struggling to get a full shot airborne consistently.
It will lead to a much longer round and not a lot of joy.
Why not play 9-holes with each hole starting at the 40 metre mark?

You don’t have to wait for us to create fun golf experiences.
You can create them yourselves as a four-ball, or a small group.
Respect everyone else, but enjoy your golf.

Try this with friends, if you’re a regular or even highly competitive golfer.
Come down after work, before work, whenever you have 2 hours.
Play a 9 hole 40 metre Championship. It’s a great game.

Anyone not shooting under 36?
Then it’s time to pay a visit and improve your short game.
