BSI Golf

We had exciting news this week as BSI became registered as a Private Higher Education Institution with the Department of Higher Education & Training. This process has been years in the works and opens the door for us to provide more education offering to our athletes. As an immediate result we will be launching a one-year Sports Management program shortly, which will commence in February 2022.  Look out for more details next week.

We’re constantly looking at ways to improve what we do, and our golf department took our tournament hosting to new levels last week with a fantastic 72-Hole Championship for our college and academy players. See images below.

BSI Premier Cycle 3 - 72 hole Championship

The Cycle 3 Premier - 72 hole Championship took place from Tuesday 07 to Friday 10 September 2021 at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington’s East and West courses. With four days of intense golf and different weather conditions each day, resulted in very tough conditions for all the competitors. This event was exciting as the leaderboard changed every day.

An eventual winner was crowned and we have to congratulate Reece Mckain for a stellar four days of golf and winning by one shot from Heinrich Prinsloo, after going into the final round 4 behind. Well done Reece!

Reece Mckain

Over and above Reece’s excellent win, BSI also had quite a few personal bests over the week.  Student Spotlight

As it is Heritage month in South Africa, we would like to put the spotlight on one of our students whose heritage stems from Kenya. We would like to introduce you to Fred Njoroge, a first year PGA Diploma student. Here are a few words from Fred about his happy time here so far at BSI and being part of the BSI family.

Hey there!

My name is Fred Njoroge, born and raised in Nairobi Kenya. I am a golfer at Balderstone Sports Institute and I am happy to be in this warm and loving family. I miss being home playing in golf tournaments with my friends and most importantly, munching traditional dishes some mukimo and dat. Staying in South Africa I have made quite a number of friends that I rely on when I need help, friends who gave me a warm welcome when I arrived at BSI. Three words to describe myself would be: ambitious, inquisitive and self-driven.

MJ Dlamini won the Eswatini Open played at Ezulwini GC (formerly known as Royal Swazi GC) on the amateur circuit, and James Pennington won the Eswatini Invitational Championship on the same golf course last week on the professional circuit.
