Good day Members,
Part of the golf course program this week is to work on the tees. We will be verticutting and cleaning up the grass that is removed. We carry out verticutting to remove some lateral growth of the grass. It’s like pruning, which assists in creating a better plant. Once the grass is cleaned up, we follow up by mowing the tee which neatens and cleans the whole appearance. The rain has caused some hassles this morning (10th), but we will continue through until done.
Some fertilizer is scheduled to be put down on the tees following the verticutting practice. This will help with divot recovery, and should see some new growth on the tees, as well as a green-up. Once has to be careful not to over fertilize, as the plant will only use what it requires, and to avoid further thatching up in the grass plant itself.
The more frequently verticutting is done, the tighter and firmer the teeing surface will be. As with most cultural practices, this obviously has to be scheduled around golfers, and busyness of the course. We prefer to disrupt play as little as possible so as to continue providing the golfer with an enjoyable experience.
Have a great week and Happy Golfing! Happy Golfing! Rohan
