The Invitational at Oubaai turns 10! Oubaai had the honour of hosting the 10th Invitational recently. Werner Welgemoed, Oubaai member and founder of the event, saw a need for a golf fundraising event 10 years ago and put his thinking cap on. The event has grown over the years and involves 100 players and 3 fiercely contested rounds of golf. The event this year supported FAMSA, the Night Shelter in George, Child Welfare in Great Brak and the Hope Church Feeding Scheme.
Says Werner, “This year was the most successful to date. Not only was the field full, the course is in excellent condition and the weather was superb! The catering was excellent, the highlight was a curry evening prepared by the Tania Hollingsworth setting the bar extremely high for future events. Oubaai showcased beautifully! Most important, the event managed to raise more than R200,000.”
Congratulations to the winners...
The team event was won by Gawie van Heerden, Leon Campher, Jannie Barnard, Des van Viegen (right). The individual event was won by Werner Welgemoed (left).

The charitable giving of the event was made possible with the help of HeatherPark Superspar, De Dekke Spar and Pacaltsdorp Spar. Werner is expanding the horizons of The Invitational with a new event in Mauritius in September 2018.

This week we are replanting the gardens at the clubhouse and using the uplifted plants at the dam wall at the 8th. The additional plants will help to create more stability and make the area visually more appealing.
Our work on the bunkers continue. On Monday we are checking the depth of the bunkers and loosening the sand. Work on the bunkers I likely to continue.
We are preparing for hollow tining next week to make sure we have all the supplies and machinery ready on Sunday.
We are continuing our work to give more definition to the course.
Until next week, Igor
